Best hope is win 4 or 5 more at home, beat SH, Butler, DePaul and Nova on the road, then maybe steal one somewhere else. That puts us on the bubble and gives us a shot.

I have never seen a 7-1 post struggle to get over a front like he has. Every team since Nebraska has fronted him, because the book is out. He can't fight through it and our perimeter post passing is horrid.

Throw in the fact that he is about 50% at actually catching the decent entry passes. Metrics be damned...he's mediocre in the post against decent competition. His offensive strengths were running the court and pick and roll and generally getting in the defense's way out top.

Too many turnovers and too many ORB given up...cant do that that when more than 50% of your shots come from 3 and you're very mediocre at the 3. Hard to imagine those trends reversing themselves mid-season.

Nah, rebounding is pretty even (23-23) and TOs we're only -3 (10-7). We have a few less FGA because of free throw differential.

Big difference is 3P%. They are hitting 42%, we're at 27% on similar volume.

Jays had to shoot north of 50% from three to squeeze one out at home against Nova...that is going to be about a 30% chance at best.

When a team fronts the post, you have to swing the ball quickly to the back side for an easy entry. We NEVER do that. And Kalk shows NO want-to in fighting through the front and establish himself. So damn frustrating to watch it every game. Marquette doesn't even have a true 5 -- they're playing with two 4's. Gold is giving up 3-4 inches and 50 pounds to him and shutting him completely down.

Okay, there it is! Within 3 at the 12 minute mark. Considering the opponent and the venue, I see this as very positive progress. We are headed in the right direction. Don't care if we lose by 20. (Although I hope we win by 10.)

total rebounds mean nothing. The ORB differential is what matters...and even moreso the ORB%. cu falls short there most nights.

At the time I posted that they were -8 on combined ORB and TO. That the gap is narrowing some is why the score is tightening up some.

Regardless, the SEASON trends tell the story. Too many TOs and too many ORBs combined with poor 3 point shooting results in a team that isn't going to go far. It is what it is. The roster is what it is.

Agree to disagree. The reason we've closed the gap is because Marquette missed a bunch of open 3s and are down to 33% from 3 now.
The gameplan has been to dare guys other than Jones to make 3s and they've missed their last 6.
