Assistant Coach

Who replaces Ryan Miller on our staff? I would think Mitch is a very strong candidate. However, we would have a very young staff, and Mitch doesn’t have any recruiting experience or connections.

I would think there is close to a zero percent chance that Mitch takes over Miller's spot. Mitch has exactly zero experience as an assistant coach, recruiter, etc. That's what Miller was.

This isn't the first time I've seen someone suggest Mitch might get the spot or be a likely candidate. Am I completely missing something to think that is not at all in the realm of reality?

Maybe people are confusing Ballock with Grant Gibbs? He is an MBA assistant so it kinda make sense. Mitch doesn't make any sense at all.

Neither Mitch nor Gibbs are realistic candidates. Not sure why they keep getting brought up. Mitch has almost zero experience - I'm sure he has a bright future. But to replace Miller, we need to bring in a solid recruiter and someone with some experience. I wouldn't be surprised if we just elevate DK to associate head coach and bring in someone fitting that profile. Or, there are plenty of head coaches who are out of jobs that might be good candidates

I think Gibbs is on the record as saying his goal is to be an NBA head coach. He's currently an assistant coach for OKC and was the head coach of their G-League team for several years. I think going back to college to be the 2nd or 3rd guy in the pecking order on our staff wouldn't make sense for him.

I would think Mac's record of getting assistants on to the next level has to make being on his staff look inviting. All we ask is a recruiter and someone who has an NIL plan. The rest can be figured out on the run

I am not sure Mitch is ready either as I think we need someone with recruiting ties. However, Trey Ziegler had limited experience before we hired him. He only had one year at High Point.

I am not sure Mitch can return as a GA for a third year, and I think Mac will want to find some spot for him on his staff. He has praised his offensive coaching skills and relates really well with the team.

Crazy thought...but does Kyle Korver have any interest in coaching?...although he didn't play for Mac, imagine him as a recruiter for the program. Simply dreaming here...

Korver is an assistant GM for the Hawks. Also another long shot that may not work. We are starting to sound like UNL football fans. "MAYBE JASON PETER SHOULD BE THE NEXT COACH"

Corey Edwards could get a look. I think he was a finalist when we hired Trey. He doesn't have a ton of experience either. In addition, to his two years with us as a GA, he was a FT assistant for DeVries for one year at Drake and now a few years with Huss at High Point. It seems like Mac likes to have two pretty experienced assistants on his staff along with one younger guy (like JCW and Trey).
