I get he was having a bad game and I in no way think he should have won BEPOY but that is still questionable leaving him on the bench late when he is one of their better 3 point shooters.

Everyone is in love with Pitino but I don't know how they didn't force the issue more inside with Zuby when all Arkansas bigs were in foul trouble.

had to snort a bit at that. I'm rooting for them so it's not an embarrassment for the BE, but seriously, this is the risk of promoting a BE team that relies on a friendly whistle, even when they do hit shots. Tighter foul calls today means they lose to mediocre teams like Arkansas

Watch out, be careful as some on this board are going to label you as part of the cry baby population here with the reference about the refs favoring STJ over Creighton in the past.

But I couldn’t agree with you more. STJ’s runs often came as the result of moving screens against Kalk to open a driving lane for their scorers or hacking away at arms and shoves to get turnovers for fast breaks, all cloaked as “physicality” or from what I often saw as rugby, not basketball.

100% - I hate the way they play and think it's a problem for the BE

I am thrilled that both Marquette and St. John's lost. Both teams try to win with "defense" otherwise known as a friendly Big East whistle. Now, we have 2 teams left who actually play basketball. Let's get to the Sweet 16.

It was interesting that the announcers said Pitino warned his players that they
should expect the refs to call it tighter in the Dance than in the BE conference games.

Agree SDJay. Very interesting comment attributed to Pitino.

Loose whistle games generally hurt us.

Think St John’s losing had more to do with bad shooting than a tight whistle. Hard to win when your best player goes 3/17 and you go 2/22 as a team from three. There is more than one way to win a game. Physical defense is one of them. Despite the poor shooting by both teams, I thought I was an entertaining game.

True, they shot terribly, but when they can't play their style it takes them out of their element in a lot of ways. Physical D triggers their fast break points, and physical moving screens are usually how they get space in their offensive sets. Take away their defensive style and you leave them floundering -- like today. It was bound to happen though, no way were getting whistles like they did in the BE tourney all the way through the NC's

If they' shot anything less than awful they could have won today, but I didn't think they had a real shot to go far in the tourney because of their style

Two of their three refs today were Big East regulars. Padilla and Simpson. We see those guys all the time. If they called this game differently than they do the BE, then it'd be understandable if the Johnnies were caught by surprise.

Sad thing with Nembhard is if he stayed at Creighton he could have grown into a truly elite player. Big time regression at Gonzaga. Some questionable tendencies now coming up as permanent habits every time I catch the Zags.
