6 in one hand half dozen in the other. Either way you go about it the odds of winning in those situations is like <1%
I do agree it's hindsight but still
..I'd choose to make it 100% of the time. More likely to make and get a miss on the other end than miss, get the board and get a 3.
Who knows if it would have made a difference to make the free throw, but being an extreme basketball junkie that watches way too many games, my estimate is 95 out of 100 coaches would have tried to make the free throw. As you may recall, right after the miss and then we fouled, the UConn player missed the front end of the 1 and 1, and it was thus still a three point game and they intentionally fouled us again. Had Green made the free throw, it would have been a two point game, and we would have had a shot to tie or win, but not much time to put up a shot, so probably a hope and a prayer type of shot. And of course, Green might have missed even if he was trying to make it. Game was lost due to McNeeley, who had an unbelievable game, and despite Neal’s best efforts, they doubled screened to get him open looks. I thought Mac should have gone to zone after he got to upper 20s points as it was obvious they had to rely on McNeeley as Karaban and Solo both kinda sucked last night and bigs were taken out with foul trouble.
