It’s still Kalk but I think he’s going to be POY so it would make sense it would go to a St. John’s player. As you noted above they will “spread the wealth” and I don’t think they would give the POY and DPOY to the same player.

Torvik doesn’t take into account the intangible defensive impact players make, right? The altered shots by Kalk and the players who just give up on penetrating altogether when he is looming is what makes him extra special. That, in concert with his three consecutive DPOY awards, makes it awfully tough for voters to give it to someone else. Unless they are just sick of Kalk and don’t want anyone matching Ewing’s for straight awards.

Win the conference and keep doing what he’s been doing and he will deserve the sweep of awards.

There have been plenty of players in BE that were awarded both POY and DPOY : Ewing, Mourning, Donny Marshall, Okafor, Hasheem Thabeet, Kris Dunn last one in 2016. Kalkbrenner can definitely sweep both. I think DPOY is a lock for him based on the BE opposing coaches universal admiration of his defense and how he affects games in post game comments made by the coaches.

Good to know, then I’d say Kalk is the front runner for both.
At Creighton Bob Gibson majored in sociology and starred in Basketball and Baseball. In 1957 Gibson received a $3,000 sign-on bonus with St. Louis Cardinals, but delayed his HOF Cards career a year to play pro B-ball with the Harlem Globetrotters.

Two recaps covering various aspects of the game, two photo galleries and a podcast. WBR had Saturday's game covered from lots of angles -- thanks to everyone for supporting us!

Matt D wrote about Jamiya Neal's second half surge, Fedor Zugic's steady playmaking, and Steven Ashworth saying "night-night" to the Golden Eagles:

My "Morning After" recap talked about the Bluejay defense, Kalkbrenner and Ashworth getting the Jays started and Neal closing the show, plus all the usual highlights, quotes, key stats and more:

If you haven't subscribed to our email newsletter, we'd appreciate if you did -- social media is so fractured anymore that it's easy to miss stuff. Here's the latest one from today:

Django wrote:Kalk will get it BECAUSE of the way Ash has come on. SA holds the reins to the Kalk horse. He has the Kalk video game controller in his hands. As we have seen the past five years Kalk has been the backbone of the team but in crunch time he always passes the rock. He always has deferred and he is only as good as Z or R2 or Ash has been. I know Steve won’t win it but he should be given more credit. I was a doubter for a time but he has that killer instinct like Sears and Walker. I was skeptical with his physical limitations but IMHO greatness & being the best is about what you do when all the pressure is on in crunch time. (And we’re also seeing that Ash has another teammate with that ice water in his veins with Jamiya).

Do you vote for Ichiro for the Hall of Fame because he deserves it, or do you not vote for him because you don't want to make him a first time inductee-which diminishes Hank Aaron, Reggie Jackson, Ty Cobb...who weren't unanimous inductees?
Is Kalk deserving of the best defender ever of the Big East with Patrick Ewing? Or is he 'just' the POY and you give someone else DPOY. Which of course couldn't be Stevie Mitchell because they took him out a lot at the end of a very important game in Marquette's BE season
