The Villanova board was rife with comments about it being the wrong call.

The real question is whether Green had possession before his foot hit the ground out of bounds. It was close. The rule absolutely allows timeout in that situation if the player establishes possession of the ball.

He had control of the ball in his right hand long before he landed. He then moves it to between his forearms so he can make the time out signal with his hands, which he did before landing. Basketball doesn’t have a maintain possession through contact with the ground rule like a football catch. Official is looking right at him. They also reviewed the play and stuck with the call. IMO, it was correct, but had the official ruled he didn’t call timeout before landing, I’d bet dollars to donuts that wouldn’t have been overruled either.

It's also possible he was audibly calling for timeout before he even signaled it with his hands, when he clearly had possession. The ref who called it had a better view (accounting for sound as well) than any camera angle I've seen.

Was a little later with my gamer because I had to cover a couple high school games and then the Luka Doncic trade completely derailed my night, but I touched on Ashworth's finish to the game, the complete 180 in terms of play style from the first meeting and the unsung heroes like Jasen Green and Mason Miller.

Also a note that we still had a timeout to use. A few of us question the timeout use from Coach. But he used a timeout for an offense, defense sub and then had the one in his pocket for the game winner. I saw a lot of basketball, including KU and IA St because they were down double digits, whose team used all their timeouts by the under 4.

Here's the recap on WBR -- took a deep dive into some of the stats from this one, because it's not very often CU wins a game where they shoot this poorly from three + commit this many turnovers. On the road, even rarer. Thankfully, the defense was stellar.

Great article. I loved the links; especially the John Bishop call.

Interesting...according to Torvik, this was Villanova's worst offensive game of the year and their best defensive game of the year...

Conversely, our first game with them was Nova's third best offensive game of the year and second worst defensive game of the year
