Transfer PG

Postby SeattleJay » Thu Mar 27, 2025 2:28 pm

Right now we have a LOT of talent in our lineup with one glaring weakness IMHO. We need an experienced PG. No slight intended toward Ty Davis. He had a good developmental freshman year. We don’t win that BET against DePaul without him. But, we could be one of the preseason BE favorites with a great experienced point guard.

Here is the list that 247 keeps:
https://247sports.com/season/2025-baske ... onranking/

That young man from UNLV is top 3 and he came to Omaha last year and saw what this program is all about. I have no idea what Dedan Thomas is like as a person and Mac really likes team first high character players.

Other interesting names on this list. The Iowa PG is #13. Do we have any interest?

Pop Isaacs is listed at number 8.

There is a PG from TCU at#11. We had good connections there a few years back with Bello and Coach Miller.

Obviously, we likely have some good money but connections can also be important.

Anyone have any insights or opinions?

I really like JJ White from UNO. He shot over 44% from 3 last year and had a good game against St. John’s in the tourney. He’s a big physical PG who I think would do well in the Big East.

Very interesting. I assume he has only one year of eligibility left?

I LOVE Dedan Thomas from UNLV. He is a little small, but I have always preferred smaller, craftier, quicker PGs. I think he would be the best fit for the Jays. He is from a Vegas suburb and I don’t think he has any negatives about him. Hope we go for him, my dream PG addition.

Yes he has only 1 year left (he was a JUCO) so he gets an extra year. Seen many of his games, I always thought he would have gotten solid minutes this year for the Jays. And Walt yes Dedan would be unreal, just don’t know how we would pay all these guys. Still feels weird to say that.

CG Ryan Conwell from XU is in the portal. He is not a “true” PG but is a really good player. He had 38 against MU in the BET.

The BE has a good number of big point guards. While he may be what is needed on the offensive end, his size will be a liability on the defensive end. The weakness on the team last year was defending the long athletic teams.

The World Herald says PG is now our top priority and we have been in touch Jayden Reid (5’10”) South Florida and Bryce Lindsay (6’3”) from James Madison:

You can get away with a 6'1" point guard in the college game. Creighton's issue was pairing their small guard with another small guard, but once Isaacs went down they started 6', 6'5", 6'8", 6'10", 7'1" (hard to get too much bigger/longer than that; CU was 7th in the country in average height). I don't really buy Ashworth's size being among the main reasons Creighton lost the games it did. You're probably going to have a hard time finding a 6'5" point guard that fits what McDermott wants in that position.

Wes Enis is a D2 PG who has been contacted by a lot of D1 schools including CU:
