Unless something big changes with NIL this spring, it’s going to take money to fend off suitors for the best returning players on a team that is good enough to finish 2nd in the Big East, notwithstanding the biggest pieces are out of eligibility — let alone finding replacements for the seniors. We are not going to be immune to that. No matter how much they may love McDermott, it’s now about maximizing income. It’s business. Buckle up and prepare for a kick in the groin or two.

This. Excellent post, perspective. In other words - the wild, wild West. Prepare for the ride.

This. Seems most on the board assume we will have everyone back that we want, and then add the pieces we need. No, no. Not how it works anymore. I have friends all the time ask me how the Jays are going to be next season. My response is always, “tell me who is going to be on the team and I will let you know how good I think they will be.”

People assume Fedor will be here….maybe. Jackson, maybe. Pop, maybe. I could go on but we really have zero idea. Zero. Think Nembhard.

Starter needs are for sure a 1 and a 5. Jackson has the 4 locked down with Traudt off the bench, 2 is pretty much stated above, and 3 is a question mark. I can see Green continuing to develop but likely need some depth and if there is someone better you take it

Would expect Greer to play the 3. Don't think you want him to be chasing around shooting guards or initiating offense very much. He's an off-ball wing.

Agreed, he’s 6’6 or 6’7 and athletic. That is a 3 at Creighton.
I don’t vet ‘em, I just post ‘em.

Three seem like an either or then.

Greer or Green? McAndrew is already guarding threes while green is handling the fours.

Is Pop back and playing the two? Is Fedor manning that spot (if he comes back).

Lot of questions.

1 - ???, Ty, ???
2 - Pop, Fedor, Shane Thomas
3 - Green, Greer, ???
4 - McAndrew, Traudt, ???
5 - ???, king (wouldn’t be suprised if he’s gone), ???

Lot of key unknowns. I don’t expect Mason to be back, wouldn’t be suprised if King moves on like he almost did last year. And there is bound to be at least one Surpise. You are realistically looking at 6-8 new comers

I think next year will be by far Mac’s toughest coaching job since first year post Doug

Pop will be PG if he returns.

I sure hope not. We need a true PG—no more combo guys. We got away with it last season because both Baylor and Trey were great secondary ball handlers. It really hurt us this season when nobody else could slide in.

Ziegler said at the last luncheon that they are going to look for an experienced PG from the portal. The discussion was around Ty not being ready and needing 1 more year of experience.

No qualms with that. But hopefully Ty will be ready to contribute more next year, either as backup or SG.
