Agreed. We ended up in the position where we had our top guy and only our top guy left again, and we ended up pulling it out this time which is huge for this staff and the program. Although 2019 was relatively disappointing this is a great get and something other players will hopefully take notice of for the rest of the 2020 class and the 2021 class. I saw our roster makeup for 2020-21 and it has the potential to be very very special. Probably need to add another PG and then add the best available player we can IMO.
I think Creighton's just fine at point guard until 2021. I'm guessing they'll look to use one of the remaining 2020 spots on a transfer and then target the best player they can get with the other. I'm sure the fans would want a power forward but I wouldn't be surprised to see another scoring wing. If they strike out on either of those paths, they roll one over to next year.
I really think another PG would be beneficial. One injury to Zeg and you could have 2016-17 all over again. Not that another PG would fix that necessarily but depth isn't a bad thing.
Sure, you'd like to be three-deep at every position but you only get so many scholarships and there aren't a ton of good players who will sign up to be a break-in-case-of-emergency option.
For this season, Creighton has Zegarowski, Mintz and Mitchell at point guard.
Next year, they'll have Zegarowski and Mitchell with a year in the program under his belt. Alexander and Ballock will both be seniors and both have the ability to handle the ball and make plays for others, and Antwann Jones has shown some playmaking ability as well. I think you can get by with that mix if you have to.
If they really like Hepburn or other point guards in the 2021 class, there's no reason to recruit one in 2020 when you've already got two underclassmen at that position right now.
