Funny how recruiting rankings work. He was off the radar, we offer, he commits, boom #47. His great summer work ethic probably helped as well but you know.

There are probably dozens of kids like Justin around the country that are not being recruited as much as they would be if they had more exposure. Our offer provided him with said exposure and now he's appropriately ranked

Heck, had the staff only known this previously - they could've offered 5-6 unknown recruits and harvested a bumper crop of 4 star guys.

I would give his HS Coach and the Crusaders staff much of the credit in Justin's development. Honestly, with the level of play that Justin and the Crusaders had over the full grassroots season (both Spring and Summer), evaluator heads were turning and they were getting noticed. Beginning with the well respected Ryan James, then Eric Bossi, both the Crusaders and Justin began to gain exposures. I suspect the showings in June and July would have garnered a very similar deluge of offers (like Kerwin Roach's flood of offers) for Justin, had CU not offered in June (and thereby pulling him off the boards).

The high level of play by both the Crusaders, and it's' players (including Justin) was the main driver/reason for the rapid ascent up the recruiting services charts. The excellent showings by the team (and Justin, within the limits of his teams style of play) in Minnesota, KC, St Louis, SDak, and Las Vegas are the primary force and fuel to Justin's rapid rise - not the verbal commit. By the Fab48 in Vegas - only the guys from Scout (Daniels and company) and ESPN (Joel Francisco, etc) had not yet been convinced that he was a legit big. His showing in Vegas convinced every major service that he was rankings worthy.

Of course, let's hope our coaches do take credit for his rapid rise...it will aid recruiting.

Patton's ESPN page updated. 4 star. Top 100 hasn't been updated yet but I expect him to be moved in when it does.

His rating is only 80, and the 2015 top 100 starts at 82, so he's probably not in it. ESPN's recruiting coverage is usually weak, and they likely haven't seen Justin play, but gave him 4-stars based on the fact that he signed with a bigger program and the other sites all have him very highly ranked.

When they bump someone up to a 4 star before releasing the new Top 100, they put his grade at an 80. Same thing happened with Ronnie last year. That's why I said I expected him to get moved in there when they update the top 100.

Overall, yes, rankings are usually weak. Especially ESPN's. They are usually months behind the curve, as is evidenced here. However, 247Sports has been pretty accurate with their rankings in the past. The Crystal Ball thing is a whole different story; at least it's entertaining though.
