agreed.

However, When he committed and in the followup articles, it sounded as though CU is his "dream school" - getting the chance to play at a high level, at home, with his folks able to see him play. It is always a possibility that another school might snatch him, but that would negate the playing at home with ready access for his family. Not likely he will bolt. If the academics issue is a real one, then he won't be going Anywhere until he gets his academics together. Let us hope Justin will be able to come aboard next fall. Work on your academics young man.

He's a home town kid, his family is down the street and can see him at every game in his career in one of the premier conferences in all of college ball - we were the ones who showed him love long before anyone else (the other school in state didn't bother to offer even). I think he's solid to us and a perfect fit for us in the Big East.

Yeah, from what I've gathered from talking to him, he's as sold on Creighton right now as you can be. Perhaps that might change if a Kansas or a Duke came calling, but I don't see that happening. The academics are an issue, but I think worst case scenario he goes to a prep school or somewhere to get eligible and then comes to Creighton after that.

My money is on this kid. I think he takes care of business on and off the court, honors his commitment to CU just as CU does to him.

Nice ranking and just the type of center that will fit in perfectly for us in the Big East, and for Patton he has 3 of the best post player coaches in the NCAA's -- Mac, Merfeld and Sellers are really amazing at teaching post play -- footwork, positioning and helping to develop offensive skills around and away from the basket for big men.

Here is the Scout blurb on Patton:

Justin Patton, a Creighton commit, and Matt Heldt, a Marquette pledge, were also big movers in the new rankings. Heading into July not much was known about either, but Patton and Heldt both proved worthy of a lofty ranking At 6-foot-10, Patton is mobile, athletic, long and boasts the hands, touch and shooting ability to be effective as a scorer. Heldt, who also stands 6-foot-10, impressed on offense with hooks shoots and catch and shoot jump shots. Both are promising big men and good early pick ups for their respective schools.

Wow. This will make him the highest rated player ever to come out of the state. Nice!

WHOA. 40th!?

I'm not sure I've ever heard of a kid going from un-ranked to top-50 that quickly. So awesome. Congrats to the staff.

maybe for this century, though it wouldn't surprise me if at one point in time another NE player was top 50 in at least one reputable ranking service during the past 15 years. going back to the 20th century, I'm pretty certain that Andre Woolridge was very, very highly rated by the recruiting services that did exist. and insofar as there were rankings a decade or so before that, I'd guess that Mike McGee, Ron Kellogg and some others were "top 50" guys for their respective years.

but yeah, his current Scout rating puts him in very rarely chartered waters for a Nebraska HS hoops player.
