IU, MSU, LSU, UT, SMU and Creighton mentioned. Not sure anyone else wants him as badly as our coaches, but it's going to be tough to bring him on board.

Gotta love the confidence of those IU faithful...in their opinión it's a done deal (with exception to the late MSU offer). Hopefully they are smart n savvy enough to package that stuff (confidence) and sell it on the web.

Creighton is still in it to win it with McQuaid, with our unique package (Hoops 1st, "Shooter U", small size, top academics, private school, all games televised). I like our chances. Many of this year's recruiting battles harken back to the classic 3 on 1 (PAC-12 vs Creighton), west coast battle for Stover, back in 2008. Creighton vs UCLA, Arizona, & ASU. Fortunately we will win a few of these battles this time around.

Heck, i forgot to add that we're in a major conference... that should also help.

Sparty article on McQuaid.

according to McQuaid Sr., we are still "in the mix".

Let it Play out

After making a hasty commitment to SMU last spring, it is unlikely that McQuaid will make the same mistake twice.

"Right now he is going to let it play out," said Coach McQuaid. "We want to get out and visit Michigan State, and Indiana is another one. We want to visit Texas, Creighton, and LSU. Those are some of the schools that are very interested and we are really going to take a hard look at those and try and visit each one of those campuses before he decides.

Crean and Indiana is a mess. He's probably on the hot seat and fans were very unhappy with his last few recruits for 2014....

Crean will be done at IU by 2016 at the latest. The fans and local media have run out of patience, he seems a bit shady in his recruiting practices, and they haven't accomplished a thing on the court (other than a few nice wins here and there) since he's been in Bloomington. I'm confident he regrets ever leaving the Marquette job.

my IU friends hate crean - and i mean HATE

he'll end up at a MAC type school or an nba asst gig in another year or so

if you look at the quality of kids that he's been able to recruit there (and since drafted by nba) - and the results he's had with them - not good

It's miraculous to me that Creighton is in a kid's final 5 with Texas, Michigan State, Indiana, and LSU. That's amazing to me.

Why?

TX, IU, and LSU seem like they have challenges to overcome from a basketball standpoint. MSU and Izzo is tough, no doubt. But I like how we stack up with most program across the county. That doesn't mean we are gonna get everyone we want but we have a lot to offer and I don't fear BCS names anymore.

There are the bluebloods with stable coaches that will be tough to beat....MSU, KU, Duke, Syracuse, Louisville, UK, UNC, and Florida (Arizona and UCONN maybe also?), but beyond that list I think we have a shot to compete for kids with most programs, assuming we can keep winning. Again we won't get everyone but we will make final lists and get official visits over some BCS schools that we havent' in the past.

Don't want to put words in ZMagic's mouth, but I think this may be more of the "pinch me, this is who/where we are now" moment. If successful athletic programs are all about money and branding (which I believe we can agree that's the goal...), then what's being said here is that our brand is now running alongside Texas, MSU, IU, etc. (as opposed to commenting that our basketball program, specifically, is on par with those mentioned). Given that those schools have football programs, too (okay...maybe IU not so much), the fact that our basketball first school is blossoming into a national brand is a very big deal.
