With our heightened interest of in-state players (Patton, Thomas, Triston Simpson), I am clueless as to why we are not recruiting Malik Hluchoweckyj hard. Senior to be point guard at Bellevue West, he's a state champion, and he's under the radar. He had a great Junior season, and has blown up this summer. He's 6'0, 175 lbs with a 37 inch vertical. He's got a nice left-handed jumper, good handles, and he's one of the most explosive guards I've seen in the metro in some time. Can get to the rack in a flash, and he will not lay it up, he'll dunk on you. This summer alone, he was received high interest from Miami(OH), Wichita St, Clemson, Bowling Green, Northern Colorado, St. Bonaventure, and Southern Illinois. A lot of people like to compare him to Antoine, because of the highschool and they both are aggressive, athletic lefties. This might sound crazy, but i believe he can be better then AY at the right place. He's so explosive and his ceiling is really high, I believe. Anyone know of any interest we have??

My only comment on Malik, as I haven't seen him play, would be that of the Programs you listed that are showing interest, the only one I would view as being on par with where we want to be is Wichita St.

Basketball recruiting is a funny thing and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. At the end of the day, I trust our staff has done their homework and are identifying the guys that can compete with the Top 25 teams that are out there (which should make us competitive in the Big East). I also trust that they are well aware of who in the metro has the potential to be that type of guy...we should know better than anyone.

There's a lot of time left in the recruiting game and we have our sights set on some guys that are national type recruits for perennial strong programs. As a Creighton fan over the last 40 years, I'm just enjoying the ride to places I never envisioned we'd be.

Malik had a terrific state tournament last year and has carried that over to a strong summer. There are only two weekends left of AAU ball, but I think his recruitment will continue to pick up. He's a tremendous athlete as has been mentioned. I think where he ends up depends on how much he refines his skills to go with that athleticism. He needs to show he has the handles and vision to play the point and he needs to keep working on the jumper to make defenses pay for playing off of him. It looks like MVC is his level now, but who knows where he'll be by the time he commits. He's a good kid though and I'm definitely rooting for him.

Perhaps part of the lack of interest is due to how much they like Glynn Watson an don't see room for Malik. Or maybe they're looking at Simpson as the next PG. I've seen him play a bit and he's a very solid all-around player. Good vision, good jumper, athletic, gets after it defensively. He's the best junior in the state at this point.

I heard that Malik was a probable FB or track college recruit. Obviously, that could of changed this spring/summer.

Whining works?

@NebraskaHSHoops: Add Creighton and Northern Iowa to the list of teams that have reached out to 2015 Bellevue West G Malik Hluchoweckyj (OSA 17u).

Possibility that 3 of 4 avail scholies could go to Metro kids (Patton, Thomas, MH). Man..sure hope these kids are legit...On the national scheme of things

I might be in the minority but I sure hope not. The likelihood of 3 players from Omaha being able to compete in the Big East? Sorry, but Omaha/Nebraska isn't a hotbed of hoops talent.

He's pretty firmly basketball at this point. Don't see that changing.

Our coaches aren't suddenly "settling" for Omaha kids, there's a ton of talent coming up right now. Two factors are (1) a lot of big, athletic Sudanese kids are playing (2) youth ball has finally gotten its act together in this area.
Frankly, I would have offered Central's Treshawn Thurman, but have to admit that Ronnie's a better prospect at that spot, proving once again that our coaches know what they're doing. If Thurman's motor ran a little faster (he seems to drift sometimes), he'd have gotten big offers. He's 6-7, shoots 3s and can jump out of the gym. UNO got a gem, imo.

Understand on the rise of talent in Metro. Just not sure if this talent is mid major level or high major. I do like Patton quite a bit. Thomas and MH appear to be mid major type players based on their offers.
