UNO is pretty good compared to a lot of teams. Especially UMKC. They would've been a nice addition to the schedule this year as their RPI wasn't atrocious last season (when compared to the other 4 easy teams we have) and they should be even better this year.

And I assume the above poster meant Trev ALBERTS, not Albers. The Albers twins did play for UNO (and also went to HS with me).

Also, I don't mind playing these 4 easy teams now that we're in the BE. In the MVC it would be pretty bad but we're no longer in that world. However, the energy level is usually pretty low for those types of games. Break out the newspaper and take a snooze type of game.

Those four cupcake games should give the coaches the chance to see which new guys work the best together. Personally, I hope Coach McDermott uses those games to test out some different rotations in the backcourt, because that part of our roster is, at this point, the most intriguing.

I would much much rather play an annual game with Drake. At least the Bulldogs 'attempt' to play real basketball. UNI just tries to muck it up as much as possible and it makes for a super boring, dull game. They're laughable.

The only legitimate reason to play at Drake or at UNI is if we need to maintain an Iowa presence for recruiting. With that being the sole motivation, Drake in Des Moines is probably more valuable that UNI in frostbite falls. Of course, it is also a lot closer too.

If we are going to play an Iowa school, I would hope that we would approach Iowa and Iowa St. first before we agree to anything with Drake or UNI. Even better than playing at one of the Iowa schools would be a neutral court game in Wells Fargo Arena like we did a few years ago. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to find a sponsor (Hy-Vee?) for such an event. Mizzou plays Illinois in St Louis every year in the Budweiser Braggin' Rights Game and it is a pretty popular event.

(I suppose there could be one other reason to play UNI... maybe coach feels he owes Jacobson a favor for releasing Doug without incident. Since Doug has meant so much to our program, I guess I could support a decision made for that reason. Hell, one could make a good argument that Mac owes Jacobson a whole lot more than that...)

They're actually planning to play a little more uptempo this year with Washpaun and James in their backcourt. A pretty athletic backcourt, not only for their standard, but the MVC as well. Should be an interesting team to track this year.

Totally agree. Even though major conference schools ducking us when we were in the MVC always made me angry, I could totally see their reasons for doing so.

Last year was a great example--the team's national perception (not to mention ranking) took hits with losses to both UNI and Drake last year. Why invite that possibility?

We owe nothing to either of those schools, and if Iowa kids want to see us play, they can come to Omaha to do it.
