I like the optimism about the three new Freshman, Zierden and the two Jucos. Maybe the staff shares that feeling, but the fact that we have quite a few outstanding offers, we will probably have 5 scholarships to fill for 2015 (Artino, Dingman, Chatman, Milliken and Brooks), and by the end of essentially the second possible weekend for official 2014 visits, we will have had four official visitors, one of whom is an extremely under-the-radar, but intriguing player from Idaho who told our favorite New Englander that his final three are Utah, Creighton and Santa Clara (no K-State, so they’re not pushing as hard as those three?), leads me to think the staff is very open to the idea of signing 3 guys this Fall and keeping some other options open with respect to guys who might not commit until Spring.
Correct me if I'm mistaken, but right now, we have been listed as a finalist by Demery, LaChance, Macura, Wright, and Barford? Gilmore is visiting this weekend (with Wright). That's six right there, with 3 of the 6 being PGs (however, we've heard very little about Barford, who strangely also has Utah as the sole other major conference school in his cut list- Krystkowiak’s staff and Creighton’s staff like the same type of point guards, I guess). We have something like another 10 or so offers out there (Newberry (PG), Aldridge, Cunningham, Burton, Harrell, Bartley (PG), Garrett (PG), Logwood, McIntosh (PG), Mason (PG)?, Smith?). Of those, either the recruit or the school may have very limited interest in the other right now. And, a lot can happen between August and the Spring signing date. Whatever the case, there are a lot of possibilities for those 3 spots. One spot will be used for a point guard, maybe one for a SF/Wing, and then the other for a SG or another Wing?
In short, nothing about the totality of Creighton’s 2014 recruiting efforts indicate to me that the staff wants to keep one scholarship in their pocket, even until Spring. Most likely, 8 of our current scholarship players will be gone after the end of next season. I think that trying to fill more than 5 of those spots next year would be a bad idea.
