A lot of people will argue with me on this, but with 340+ D-I schools, you can't find 9 or 10 of those to play in the non-conference? Without the Bracketbusters this year, there is an extra game to use. They should take advantage of that. I know the Big East will be a different animal this year, but I think with Doug still around, they need to play as many big games as possible. Take advantage of the exposure and take advantage of giving fans something exciting to start the season as a member of the Big East. There is no reason at all right now to already "Big Time" it. There is no guarantee that the Big East will automatically give a strength of schedule/RPI boost. Yes, it appears so, but let's have a packed schedule.
For the most part, agreed. However, a quirk in the RPI is that playing against D2 competition does not factor into the formula so instead of playing against a sub-300 RPI team, this in theory makes sense from an RPI perspective. Obviously, if the opportunity to play a decent BCS school comes up, then that's an ideal setup. But if that's not an option, then this isn't the worst idea ever.
