In the same game, Will Robertson got his 1st major league hit. Both he and Roden started, giving the Blue Jays 2 starters from the Bluejays. They both each had an RBI as well.

Kingston stated that he wants to play all games at Schwab. There may be a few games at the practice field if weather prevents games at Schwab.

We need a practice facility on campus for when we can't practice at Schwab, especially in late winter/early spring. Moving existing fields clears space for the beautiful new quand, and as JPA mentioned, closing Burt.

Getting funds to help build it was a great move.

The "building" on the northwest corner of the field is the batting cages and practice spaces, locker spaces, etc.

My only issue with is is that I wish homeplate was along Burt. Would have been a cool entrance to the ballparks to have softball and baseball have an entry plaza off of the Burt St. mall. But, I know they wanted to have it be the same layout as Schwab.

The Arkansas pitcher who shut us down in our second game against them is currently pitching a perfect game through 7. 14 strikeouts.

A layout which, of course, is all wrong. Home plate at Daytrader Park should be down in the rightfield corner. But the city and/or MECA wanted the entire country to enjoy the magnificence of Omaha's skyline beyond the RF wall. Can't have all those cameras pointed across the river into Iowa all the time. But two wrongs still make a wrong.

Wonder how Ben North's feeling right about now. He hit a 3-run no-doubter blast off this Arky dude who looks like he could win a pitching duel against Skenes. And his ERA was in the 5s coming into this game. How is that possible?

JayPak wrote:Happy opening day of the baseball NCAAT! To celebrate, here's some trivia covering the CWS in part and the NCAAT in part.
I will post answers on Friday evening.

1) In the history of the D1 baseball NCAAT, 41 schools have qualified that either:
a. no longer have a baseball program ("defunct"), or
b. have a baseball program that no longer competes in D1 ("reclassified")

Out of these 41 schools, which one has the most D1 NCAAT appearances, with 4 more than the next highest?

2) Which current Big East school has the second most appearances of any defunct program?

3) What is the only current NAIA school to have once appeared in the D1 NCAAT? They made the most of their one appearance, finishing as regional runner-up.

4) Which Summit League school has made the CWS a whopping TEN times, the second-most CWS appearances of any mid/low-major program?

5) What are the 3 schools to have qualified for the CWS not once, but twice, only to see their programs axed later?

6) What B1G school no longer has baseball but made the CWS in their only appearance in the NCAAT?

7) Only 2 schools now in D2 have made it to the D1 CWS.
a. Which west coast D2 school appeared in the D1 tourney 4x and made it to the CWS in their final appearance?
b. Which east coast D2 school made it to the D1 CWS and is still a baseball power, finishing as the D2 runner-up in 2023?

8) Only 8 schools now in D2 have made the D1 NCAAT. But, 13 schools now in D3 have made it to the D1 NCAAT. One D3 school played in the D1 tourney as recently as 2018. Who?

9) The last mid/low-major to win the CWS did so in their final month of membership in the Big South, winning the Big South's only national title in any sport. Who?

10) Sticking with mids, only 1 mid/low-major has made it to the CWS this decade. Who?

11) Name all the mid/low-majors to make the CWS from 2010-2019.

12) What is the only D1 school that did not field a team this season whose official status is "dormant" rather than "defunct" or "reclassified?"

13) Which team that made it to the Dance this year did NOT make it in 2012 despite being fully eligible and having a record of 47-12, 28-0 in conference, and winning their conference tournament?

14) Which mid-major school has the most NCAAT appearances among mid/low-majors with 18, and the most national championships of any mid/low-major, with 4?

15) For the last one, gotta be a homer... With this year's appearance added, how many times has Creighton made the NCAAT, and what was their highest finish?

Just realized that I never posted answers. Maxpowers got #2 and #15 right, congratulations.
1. Temple, with 13 appearances
2. Providence, with 9 appearances
3. Oklahoma City U. Stars, in 1984
4. Northern Colorado
5. Temple, Iowa State, Tulsa
6. Wisconsin, in 1950
7. a. Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles
b. Rollins Tars
8. Hartford Hawks
9. Coastal Carolina
10. Oral Roberts in 2023 (and now this year, Murray State and Coastal Carolina)
11. Stony Brook, Kent State, Cal State Fullerton, Cal Irvine, Cal Santa Barbara
12. LaSalle, program went dormant after 2021 season but returns next year
13. Utah Valley - they won the Great West but the conference did not have an autobid
14. Cal State Fullerton
15. 12, highest finish was 3rd in the 1991 CWS, but you all knew that already!

What an embarrassment for the CWS and NCAA baseball.

Tossing CC head coach and 3b coach in first inning?

Way to become the story of the tournament.

The HP ump was Angel Campos. I'm a long, longtime College World Series fan and, in my memory, Campos was the only CWS umpire with prior extensive MLB experience. He umped in the bigs for something like seven seasons and, apparently, he had a history of running coaches and managers there too, esp. early in games. Kind of his calling card. How he got this gig I have no idea, but it was his 2nd CWS, and he was even the crew chief. I'd be really surprised if he ever gets a third, even though the NCAA was quick to publicly defend him (of course they were). An umpire who wants to make it all about himself just doesn't belong.

OTOH, CC staff could have spent maybe one minute reading up on the guy, to know who they were dealing with, and a coach who's going to come storming out onto the field to complain about balls and strikes--in the first inning--is wound too tight to begin with. Something was likely to happen sooner or later.

If anybody should have been all zen-like, it was Schnall for Coastal, a first-year head coach who got his alma mater, a mid-major, into the national Finals, and led the nation in winning pct along the way. Yesterday should have felt like house money for this guy, but it's easy for me to say. But he seems to believe that he's being blamed for that one umpire stumbling backwards and falling on his ass and that his suspension has something to do with the umpire feeling embarrassed. If he's right about that, then I'm entirely on Schnall's side. That umpire rushed in to block Schnall from advancing and Schnall didn't touch him. Schnall's right. It's not his fault if that guy isn't athletic.

Now that the season's over, for my money the college baseball Upset of the Year has to be UNO beating LSU in their own park back in February. I checked the box and LSU's starting pticher that day was the guy who started yesterday for them, Eyanson, and got the win.

Heard on 1620 this AM that Isaac Wachsmann OF from Xavier is transferring to Creighton. Had a great 1st year (.330) but struggled at the plate this year (.228).
My brother and I used to say that drownin' in beer was like heaven, eh? Now he's not here, and I've got two soakers... this isn't heaven. This sucks! Bob McKenzie

Anybody who had on their bingo card a shoutout to “Creighton University”, and specifically “Jake Holton from Creighton University, 2019 Big East Player of the Year” on “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” last night, well, you hit the jackpot. Or, whatever they call it when you mark off a square in bingo.
