My standout player of the game goes to Jamiya. His transition baskets were sweet to watch
MVP goes to Kalk. I assume his 3 pt shooting % will drop sometime this year.
Offensive player of the game goes to Ash. He runs the show and sees the floor like he has 3 eyes.
Freshman player of the game goes to Jackson. As time goes on, he will bomb like Wragge and Ballock.
Much better defense after the slow start was good to see.

Seems like Mason Miller gained absolutely no weight or muscle in the off season. beanpole

According to the program, he put on 5 pounds. Not sure what kind of transformation you expect out of a kid who spent the better part of the summer recovering from a broken leg.

I think more pointedly is whether Miller has shown any progress towards developing skills beyond catch and shoot. I did not watch yesterday's game, but what I saw in the Purdue and UTRGV games indicated he is the same player as in the past two seasons. I get that he was injured this summer, but at what point do we accept the player that we see with our own eyes on the court.

We all wish he'd be more aggressive offensively, and he did slash to the basket to draw a pass and foul last night, but I think we've seen some additional growth on the boards and defensively. IMO I don't see a set starter emerging at the 4 just yet, particularly since Miller's been our best defensive player and best rebounder among the 4 who all play the 4 so far

Huge concern for me... Stats through two games:

Jasen Green.... Mins PPG 16.5 Total FG 1-2

Mason Miller..... Mins PPG 20.0 Total FG 0-5

(1-7) from the field from two guys that have started and average over 15 mins a game vs. two cupcake teams.

I understand that Miller was hurt over the summer but not seeing any progression from Jason Green either, would have thought both would be more aggressive this year with no more Trey or Baylor around.

In the post game interview Coach Mac talked about THREE guys competing at the 4 spot. I believe he was talking about Isaac, Jasen and Jackson. Miller has played so far alongside one of those guys and either when Neal is out of the game or in the UTRGV game with Neal at the 2.

While Mason’s shots didn’t drop, I am not concerned and would attribute it to rust. After all he shot 45% from 3 last year. I thought Mason looked much more active in this game than the previous one and his plus minus was third best on the team despite not starting. And yes, I agree that we need to see more
from him. It was ok being a good 5th option with last year’s starters but we want more this year.

Jasen was recently injured so it’s possible that that is affecting him but yes he hasn’t met expectations in the first 2 games.

I felt that Isaac looked solid despite not having a great shooting night.

Jackson was the dominant player at the end of the game. It’s hard to know if he is going to eventually start or be a top two reserve but he is making the most of his opportunities so far.

Fred has looked better this year but still some room for improvement. It will be interesting to see if Mac starts playing small ball 5 with Jasen or Isaac.

Just my observations and queries about the lineup based on 2 games against so so teams.

(Add Fedor and it will be even harder to keep everyone happy but should be good for the team)

Mason has been way more aggressive going after rebounds IMO.

Glad to see him doing that.

This sucks but at least we’ve seen positives out of Jackson/Isaac.
