Visiting for UMKC-Creighton... any recommendations?

Hi Creighton fans, we're travelling up from Kansas City to watch our Roos take on the Blue Jays November 16. Really excited about the opportunity for our team to take on one of the top basketball programs in our region. And, on a personal level, I'm thrilled we get to face a Big East school as someone who grew up outside of Pittsburgh, PA during the height of the original Big East.

I haven't been to Creighton before and have only been to Omaha once. We plan on arriving early to check out both the campus and city. I'd appreciate any recommendations you have for bars, restaurants, and/or attractions we should visit beforehand.

Conversely, I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about the Roos. You obviously have bigger non-conference games to worry about, but this is one of "the big ones" for our guys, along with Iowa State. Thanks, and best of luck this season.

The Old Market area and the Capitol District are both adjacent to the arena. Lots of bars and restaurants to explore, My favorite restaurants as of the moment are Memoir and Clio. Enjoy.

I guess a lot of it depends on how much time you have, what you'd prioritize, and whether you're traveling with kids.

For pregame bars, Let it Fly, DJ's Dugout, and Mattress Factory are all the most popular spots. Let it Fly is the newest and coolest, but it's also easily the most expensive. There are a couple other options a little farther away (but still easy walking distance): large craft beer selection at the Blatt, decent tasting room at Zip Line, and really good Mexican at Hook and Lime.

Clio and Memoir are both newer, more elevated restaurants in the Old Market. There are lots of good options in the Old Market; I personally find the Capitol District to be kind of depressing. If you're looking to venture out of downtown, there are some great restaurants in Benson (Yoshitomo, Au Courant) and Blackstone (Mula, Committee Chophouse, Cunningham's).

If local breweries are your thing, I'd recommend Kros Strain in the Millworks over everything else. And, not for nothing, Coneflower (2 locations - in Millworks and Blackstone) was voted the #1 ice cream in the country.

For things to do, kids love the Luminarium (like Science City in KC) and the zoo. The Joslyn Art Museum is right next to campus and just reopened after an extensive remodeling project.

I haven't lived in Omaha since 2017, but that blows my mind that Hook and Lime survived the past 5 years.

I think you guys are picked to win the Summit. Do you want to share a brief scouting report of the Roos?

Memoir is quite good. I like a good steak when I get to Omaha. 801 Chophouse is pretty good.

Barrett's for general bar food (chicken philly the best imo)

If you're up for the farther drive, Oscar's is solid for wings and pizza. I've never had Tracks. Everett's probably has the best wings in town. And although I haven't had them in probably 15 years, Crescent Moon's wings have always been really good.

Barrett's is meh - definitely not something I would ever go out of my way to get. Cunningham's has way better bar food.

I'll have to try Virtuoso!

Highly recommend Virtuoso! Prices can be kinda steep but worth a once in a while splurge if you like NY style. Their Chicago Italian Beef sandwich is pricy but it's the closest I've found to authentic Chicago so far (open to recommendations if anyone's got a favorite in Omaha). Gotta be sure to check their hours as they can be kinda funky sometimes.

And I agree that Barrett's can be hit or miss. Was thinking more for the experience if they're trying to eat before the game. Will be packed with Jays fans taking the shuttle there.

Fair. But for our visitor's purposes, I wouldn't prioritize going to one of the opponent's more distant bars so I can get on a bus with a slew of its drunk fans. Also seems like a lot of work for a sandwich.

Assuming you want to pregame near the arena, there are better, more convenient options available. If you want to eat, don't do DJ's - the food is practically inedible.
