Funny thing is in an interview I read he said he wants to go somewhere that has the centers graduating so he can be the man and all his finalists had this … except UCONN and when he got to the “what do you like about UCONN” question he says something lame about ‘ yeah, Tarris Reed will still be there but they can play with two posts’ or some such.

Recruit interviews also don't really mean much at all. They get asked questions and have to say something good about whoever they get asked about.

UConn's won back-to-back titles with two different starting centers who they've sent to the NBA, and obviously they have enough NIL money to compete for blue chip recruits. The recruiting pitch is pretty simple and hard to argue against. Creighton's going to have a hard time beating them straight up as things currently stand unless they come across a blue chip kid who just clicks better with the CU staff and feels more comfortable in Omaha.

They’ll pine over a kid for weeks, and then he makes a decision they don’t like, and it’s an immediate switch to vilify him. It’s such a terrible, ignorant look.

I definitely wanted Reibe to play basketball at Creighton. He decided UCONN was the better fit, for whatever reasons mattered most to him. We can move on without taking jabs at him. Well, some of us can.

JJ Mandaquit’s skill set and size remind me of former Notre Dame and Oklahoma St PG Doug Gottlieb. Is this a good thing? Evidently the coaches think so and they know a lot more than me.

I didn't see what LJay says as "vilifying" him so much as pointing out the contradiction between his stated comments and likelihood of Tarris Reede's playing time on that roster for Reibe's first year. I think Reibe would have been a great fit for us, because of his skillset and our roster post-Kalkbrenner. While we've won a lot of these types of recruiting cycles where we got in very early, we've also lost ones where agents/family get very involved and the number of visits keeps adding new teams. And while we've lost some of those (It is a business so I don't disparage someone for trying to make the best deal they can), it's also true that sometimes money and prestige don't make up for fit, and we've also had luck picking up some guys who went elsewhere initially and who decide Creighton was the right place later on.

Anyway, I'm not all that disappointed by looking to see if Green/Traudt/McAndrews can play a bit of the 5 along with King after Kalkbrenner leaves, and filling in with a portal guy as needed.

Green in particular strikes me as a guy who can match up with a lot of the post players in the league and who will torment them with his strength, quickness and length (even if they are taller). Remember our best ranked team at end of season was the 19-20 team with Christian Bishop playing the bulk of the minutes at the 5 (and Mahoney) and we followed it up with another good 20-21 team with Bishop and Kalk playing 13 mpg behind him

He doesn’t yet, but hopefully he will improve. 3 point shooting percentage is poor as well.

Had been scheduled for a Hilltop visit prior to the Greer pledge. Seems pretty likely unless there is a stealth recruitment happening that it is Mandaquit and the portal next Spring or just the portal next Spring.
