2024 Men's Soccer

Any reports from Blue White and last nights scrimmage?

What are expectations this season? Players to watch?

I know about zero WRT soccer and usually go to about a game a year (socctoberfest!) and follow when tournament games are broadcast - but am curious. Some of the younger alums I know who follow and understand the game much more closely seem to think Johnny is on a warm seat and that the Maguire run saved him season before last.

Remember when men's soccer used to be the premier fall sport for Creighton? I'm happy that volleyball has become what it has become, but I miss when Creighton soccer moved at least a few needles. Have fallen from annual NCAA participant and national brand, to picked third in the division in the Big East and nowhere to be found on the national stage. I hope Johnny and the guys can find success this year, but the program feels far from where it was a decade ago. And yes I know they made the College Cup just a few years ago, but they wouldn't have even made the NCAA tourney had they not gone on a crazy BE tourney run.

I really feel this is a make or break year for the staff. Another rough year, I think there will be a change in staff.

On Sunday evening Creighton men's soccer overcame a disastrous end to the first half with a strong second half to get their first win of the season.

Based on losing to the #3 team in the country? Interesting take …

Have you notice how bad our defense has been the last three years?
If the game plan is to out score your opponents you better start recruiting more speed on the outside to attack.

I've definitely noticed some issues.

But to pick a 1-3 loss to the #3 team in the country, after a game that honestly Creighton looked pretty solid in for about 90 percent of the minutes and actually outplayed Denver in some good sized stretches, is just weird timing to proclaim that *that's* what signals time to make a change. I agree that this year is pretty big. And I agree that Duncan McGuire may have papered over problems enough that the college cup run that year is a bit illusory -- but it's also pretty early in this season. I'm willing to see how things go this year, whether there is growth and improvement, and not hit the eject button after last night's game, which actually showed me some pretty encouraging signs.
