The NCAA revenue sharing paperwork will be filed today, and along with the proposed bill for the Big East (and everyone else) it's expected to eliminate scholarship limits -- there will still be roster size limits, but you'll be able to give everyone on the roster a full ride if you want to, for all sports.

Men's and women's basketball will now be able to give out 15 full rides instead of 13.

Baseball is the biggest change -- it will go from 11.7 (partials) to 34 full rides.

Volleyball increases from 12 to 18.

Softball goes from 12 to 25.

Great article in the Athletic/NYT today.

It mentions that football is not paying anything for past issues and that the settlement will exacerbate the difference between big football schools and everyone else. Also, the case does not really deal with Title IX

For those of you who can see it, this article is very interesting: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/26/us/n ... filed.html

Apologies that my explanation above doesn’t really do this article justice.

The Athletic with a twist where college coaches are concerned about non-football schools. McDermott & Hurley's quotes from the article

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/566514 ... ettlement/

And although Big East coaches like that they do not have to split their in-house NIL pool with football, their media deals and athletic department revenues dwarf those in the Big Ten or SEC.

“There’s more money to be gobbled up at those places,” Creighton coach Greg McDermott said. “But you either find a way to fund it or you die. That’s the reality. I just think there’s a lot of uncertainty. I would love it to be to the point where I don’t have to raise so much NIL money. It would be nice to go back to coaching and get out of the fundraising business.”

When UConn coach Dan Hurley was told of coaches from other leagues being worried about the Big East’s advantage, he grinned and said they should be more worried that his league has won four of the last eight national titles — and that his Huskies have gone back-to-back. A good reminder that the schools with the biggest budgets do not always win in basketball.

It’s astonishing to me to see how many people have their panties in a wad about NIL. You’re a real genius if you spend all your time criticizing a system that pays the players you are supposed to be cheering for on the same message board where your favorite thing to do is rip those same Creighton players you’re here to be rooting for in game threads.

These are the GREATEST OF TIMES for Creighton Basketball. NIL has been FANTASTIC for the program. How can you not see that? Most of y’all need to go root for Drake or better yet Wichita. You can go down to their board and join Clodblood… enjoy the anti-Catholic bigotry. You can make a virtual reality game where you can get free land with a Bible and a gun and have 12 kids for indentured servitude and have slaves and beat your wives. Actually you can do that now, just go over and live on a West Bank settlement. You’ll LOVE IT THERE!
At Creighton Bob Gibson majored in sociology and starred in Basketball and Baseball. In 1957 Gibson received a $3,000 sign-on bonus with St. Louis Cardinals, but delayed his HOF Cards career a year to play pro B-ball with the Harlem Globetrotters.

Interesting take. Reading through the thread, I don't see what you are seeing. People are calmly expressing some valid concerns about the NIL system. It's a reasoned discussion with differing opinions about something in its infancy that will inevitably have (and is having) a learning curve. Your reaction is the only one I see that can be categorized as "panties in a wad."

But yeah well, you know, that's just like your opinion, man.

The NIL discussions have gone on for years s as nd a large % of the posts have been negative. I’ve always maintained that amateurism was the biggest sham in American athletics. Go read the history of it. All created so Universities didn’t have to pay workers comp.
