I was listening to the Eye on College Basketball podcast with Parrish and Nordlander and they said that a majority of coaches have told them they are only going to have 10 or 11 scholarship players going forward. The rationale: scholarship guys want to play and coaches know guys 11-13 aren’t going to play much barring injuries, plus it allows for more NIL for the main guys. The logic makes sense and I think we are going to see a lot of this moving forward.

I think that's a little different than what Cal is describing. 8-9 is an extreme case and just asking for injuries to derail your season.

Personally, I like the way Creighton has handled it. The end of roster guys they added likely aren't going to ever contribute meaningfully on the court, but I think there's value in having guys like we saw in last year's class in addition to a couple of walk-ons for practice and scout team purposes. Those guys get a chance to be a part of a high-level program and get good coaching, and if they choose to seek playing time elsewhere at some point more power to them. Perhaps one of them will stick it out and become a contributor on the court, but even if they don't, if they're good teammates they're still providing value.

Art heading to his third school in three years. Curious to see where he ends up.

Man this sport is changing so much. Growing and developing with a program has become the exception rather than the norm. Transferring multiple times also has to make life in the classroom extremely challenging.

Degree means a lot less when you’re making mid to high 6 figures. Hopefully he’s at least progressing towards a degree.

Art’s Nova visit is called off. No way I’m paying the bag for a good, not great, player.

Feels like Nova might not be in the best shape NIL wise or their donors don't really want to keep Neptune around so they're being stingier with their checkbooks.

Art should very much chase the biggest bag he can get as one of the last high level starters in the portal. CBB is one of the highest paying professional basketball leagues in the world and it is his last year at this level. His NBA prospects are pretty low so he should cash in before he begins an overseas career making $100k-ish per year.

I thought I read that Nova's boosters had come up with a big number for NIL a year ago (I could be wrong), but I also see rumblings that Neptune may not be the right guy for the job so it might not be surprising to see them withholding cash to wait and see what happens this year

Kaluma has one last year to make money at the college level, so can't blame him for looking for a good sized payout. At this point he doesn't look like an NBA player, but he has some skills/abilities that translate, and he'll have no trouble finding a job overseas
