With Coach Mac turning down high caliber jobs twice during his time at CU, you gotta think he’s after legacy/community more than personal reputation. Good on the university for recognizing his impact on CU athletics.

I would think this is his final wave of recruits he’ll finish his career with and will most likely retire in 3-4 years. You know he’s looking for that Final Four to put in his cap, and I really hope he can get it done.

Probably a sign that Mac intends to finish his career here.

A better sign is the fact that he’s said it openly many times that it’s his desire to do so. But I guess the name on the building is, in fact, a more physical sign.

Mike Sautter sat down with Mac to talk about leadership, culture and more for his Engineering Culture series for Hurrdat Sports.

Good Morning all,

Just sittin' here scrolling thru the net: BJU, Twitter, ESPN, others, etc. A minor epiphany...after viewing our #18 recruiting class in 2024 and a good haul in the portal.

Image

As the 70's commercials used to say: 'We've come a long way, baby.' Remembering some of us forecasting and projecting eventual success 10 years up the road in 2013, but it was all projection, conjecture, wishful thinking /along with those whose thoughts were that Fr Lannon had overplayed his hand and we would fail in the 'big leagues'.

Yes, as one of the DA campers, I objected to our new coach and did so for a number of seasons until he won a Big East RS Championship. I have eaten much crow, especially lately as Mac has taken us to 3 or 4 SS's and an Elite Eight. After consistently competing in the top tier of the conference regularly, our Jays have grown to the point of being habitually named in the media, consistently competing & winning against 'traditional' power conference teams, and are now a regularly featured team in the Rankings polls. Thank you Fr. Lannon and thank you Ras, Coach Mac and staffs, and thank you my beloved Creighton Bluejays (lil' Creighton). Continued successes and making us all proud, and 'git' me my Natty trophy baby! :D ;)
I got nuthin' but luv for you bluejays...(Heavy D)

There hasn't been much discussion on Tony Bennett's recent retirement from College Basketball. It seems sports at the college level may be in for a difficult 5 to 10 years. If Mac were to leave -retire- I just doubt our NIL money will be close to the same level. Which spirals down to the talent you can get. Any AD has to always be ready to hire a replacement, but when you have a coach in his 60s, trying to deal with the players, agents, parents etc all asking for the biggest buck, it has to get old quick. Fr and Marcus have to be ready at any time to promote or hire, (which I am sure they are) but if a number of key coaches get out of the business, your hiring pool will be even fewer.
As Bennett mentioned in the article below, there is no off season. You immediately go from losing your last game to checking out the transfer portal. Or even spending your time working with lawyers to get a European player eligible. These new workload items aren't anywhere near the practice court or the arena. Mac likes his golf and the warm weather, and at his age it has to be weighing on him as to why is he busting his butt so much for today's system. More of the coaches can't handle where college sports are going. How long will it take for Villanova to get back near their glory. You have to really like the job and have great people around you to minimize your involvement on a daily basis.
I would have to believe if Kansas wins this year, Self is gone. You could start a big list in the same scenario. If Bennett is creating the new retirement age of 55, there will be a lot of turnover in Athletics. Especially if a union is created or the players become full-time employees. It just wouldn't be as fun anymore.

hey zeus christy! Did you miss anything? Leave any stone unturned? wait 1…you didn’t slam the dems nor Harris?

CU’s AD inherited Rass’ shortlist and probably added a couple of names. List “sure things”: DeVries, Huss, Lusk, others. Any new coach will be from CU’s family tree.

When Bluto was ranting about the Germans bombing Pearl Harbor, Otter raised the very reasonable point, "Germans?" But then Boon said "Forget it. He's rolling". Realizing his mistake, Otter said "Bluto's right. Psychotic, but absolutely right".

gtmo's rolling.

Congratulations to coach Mac on becoming Creighton's all time wins leader last night. I recognized his coaching talent many years ago when he coached my son and I couldn't be happier having him at Creighton.
