Current state of college basketball is really sad. Kids growing up near these schools will not grow up as fans of their local team. Who could bother watching when any success your team has will not be built on, any promising players will be gone?

That’s one position that’s covered for the Jays.

Looking for a bigger bag I suppose.

has Nova picked anyone up significant this off season - hard to follow anyone but CU with so much happening.

guessing this might be the last year of Neptune - two 6th place finishes, zero NCAAs - rapidly waning support - and who knows where they go from here? Wright's timing to get out couldn't have been better.

I think there's cause:effect here. IMO, Villanova's decline is largely because of Jay Wright's absence. It's not that he got out at the right time as that assumes that there would have been similar decline in performance had he stayed. What I see is that Nova still has had a lot of talent, but the attention to detail has slipped and I can't help but think that is a function of coaching. Jay Wright teams rarely to never beat themselves. I see that happening frequently under Neptune.

It's a fair question as to whether Nova would have continued to attract talent in the portal era and if in the portal era, there would not be enough continuity to be able to teach the "Villanova Way". Honestly, I think Jay Wright would have adapted and they would still be a beast. Unfortunately (for Nova fans), he chose a different path.

sorry I was unclear. My thought on Wright getting out in time was regarding the insanity of the portal and NIL - not the state of Nova's program. He got his - multiple NCs - and a spot in the HOF.

and if I remember correctly, people online speculated that NIL was a factor in his (slightly ahead of schedule) decision to retire.
