Taryn Kloth - former Creighton volleyball player

Former Creighton volleyball great Taryn Kloth is currently in the world's #3 beach volleyball pair (in terms of Olympic rankings this cycle) and is thus on track to represent Team USA in Paris. Taryn and her partner Kristen Nuss beat the Silver Medal team from the Tokyo Olympics today!! They are currently competing in the Paris Elite16 and will compete in world championships from October 6th-15th.

Taryn and her partner won their pool 3-0 and advanced to the single elimination bracket of worlds. They had their first match of that today and set 1 was very nerve-wracking but they ultimately defeated Canada's Pavan (the former Nebraska 4x 1st team AA) and McBain to advance to the round of 16.

Update: Taryn went all the way to semis before losing a Heartbreakerer 1-2 to the team that ultimately won gold. TKN ended up taking the bronze at world championships. They should feel good about their olympic prospects after world championships. The worst case scenario would have been a bad finish for TKN and a USA team other than Cheng-Hughes winning it all.

For those interested, Taryn and her partner just completed one of the best years for a USA beach volleyball player in quite awhile. I have seen multiple outlets call them locks for the Paris Olympics (along with Cheng-Hughes). I believe they also took home the most collective prize money (from FIVB +AVP) of any US team since 2008 (Kerri Walsh Jennings and Misty May-Treanor) in a season. They won the Pro Tour finals in Doha, Qatar last weekend.

It is official! Both US teams have been virtual locks since October, but they can finally announce Olympic pairs after the final qualifying event last weekend.

Kloth won her first match of pool play with a 2-0 sweep. Next match is Monday at 3PM.

TKN swept the Tokyo silver medalists to go to 2-0 in pool play. Next match on Thursday at 3PM on Peacock and 6PM on USA.
