Have 3 teams in the top 12 and the defending national champ doesn't hurt.

Kind of get the feeling ESPN is working on buttering up the Big East in advance of the TV contract negotiations. After their 30 for 30 and largely ignoring the BE during the first 10 years of it's reformed existence they seem to be putting more of a focus on the conference. Hurley and Shaka were both on SVP last week, now Mac. That 100% wouldn't have happened 5 years ago.

I'm not looking forward to a potential world where half of our games are on ESPN+

I don't disagree, but I would imagine in the not so decent future Fox will be doing something similar. It's the way the world of TV is trending, for better or worse (seems worse).

I do think the brand of the Big East is starting to see a reemergence culturally in the CBB (and beyond) landscape. Yes, the on the court results have been there all 10 years, but now with the collection of coaches, fanbases, and storylines over the last year it seems to have taken a step from "the favorite college basketball conference of your friend who loves college basketball" to the conference more casual fans will pay attention to on a nightly basis. The TV ratings aren't there yet, but if the coaches stick around the ceiling is well beyond what a bunch of small-ish Catholic/Private/UConn schools should be able to draw.

I was talking with a friend who knew very little about Creighton, the Big East, or college basketball in general last week about the Ed Cooley saga and he could not get enough. There are stories that will pull people in well beyond of X and O's/wins and losses.

Was on sportscenter with SVP tonight. Pretty standard interview. As scott went to break he made a point to say “you better lock that guy up he is am awesome coach”

Mac was great on SVP. He and his agent are just playing this perfectly.

SVP ended the interview saying "You guys better lock that dude up and give him some dough because he's an awesome coach"   just publicly dominating this negotiation

also, when asked about Senior Day, the way he mentioned the guys was interesting. Said "Guys like Ryan Kalkbrenner, Baylor Scheirerman and Francisco Farabello all potentially playing their last game".... well, we know Baylor and FF are for sure gone. "Potentially" the key word there with Kalk, and he didn't even name Ashworth

Would love to have Kalk back another year, but the time for that discussion is after they complete this year.

1 thing we've gotten spoiled with under Mac is the string of 20 win seasons and now 5 in a row 12+ conference wins.

Kalk and Ashford would be great bridges to the next group that will push us forward the next 3 - 4 years.

I'm not sure Kalk is more than an NBA bench player (and I would love to be wrong), but I wouldn't begrudge him trying...he's given us much more than we bargained for when we got him as a gangly freshmen. A credit to him for his intelligence and hard work and a credit to Mac for using him to his potential.

Let's close this year strong, and appreciate this group for it's consistent excellence.

Go Jays

Jon Walker tweeted today that Ashworth is not being honored at senior night. Pretty much answers that question.
