Yeah, the whole "if I had my choice" quote is being analyzed a ton. I think producer Josh thinking it's Mac preparing for "PR battle" in an upcoming "messy divorce" as he called it, is the worst case scenario. Best case, he's publicly saying that to get more money, or more of whatever it is he is looking for to get appreciated. He and his agent have played it perfectly, the public is all on Mac's side

I am writing as a concerned CU alumnus and longtime season ticket holder. Coach McDermott is the reason I decided to stop buying single game tickets and become a season ticket holder years ago. As a husband and father, I am proud of our program and the values it represents. CU did not live up to those ideals in 2021 with how Coach McDermott was treated in the wake of his poor choice of words - the "plantation" comment. That continues to this day. I and many others have seen an insufficient effort by Father Hendrickson and AD Blossom towards rebuilding and/or maintaining that relationship. This is due in no small part to the fact that Coach McDermott deserves a significant raise in compensation for his performance.

I speak for many in saying this, and be sure that Father Hendrickson and AD Blossom know it: Fix it or we're gone.

An apology and/or public affirmation of Coach McDermott's impeccable, career-long character and commitment to excellence, without which CU would never be where it is today, and most of all - PAY HIM. Now. He deserves an offer for a contact paying least $3 million per year or more, and everyone knows it.
If this does not happen and Coach McDermott leaves, you can count my money and support for Creighton out. Your move, Father Hendrickson.

Thank you.

I assume we’re being trolled here. If not, this email is comically bad.

I'm honestly kind of surprised at all the ridiculousness around this. Shouldn't Jays fans be used to coaches coming up in the coaching carousel? It happened for years with Altman - including him leaving and coming back. And it has happened with Mac. Despite all the handwringing, the Jays have had two coaches in 30 years. That's mind blowing.

Whatever is going on behind the scenes, Mac wants to retire here. He also doesn't seem to want to coach until he is 80, so to leave and start over at a new program now seems like a stretch. Especially a program that would be, at best, a small step up. If Kansas or Kentucky were calling, I would be more worried. But I just struggle to see him going for something like Ohio State or Arizona State at this point.

Personally, I think he is playing all this perfectly. Between the on court success and the crazy chatter, he is set up for a new contract with higher pay and whatever else he feels is lacking (money for assistants, more private flights, whatever). Kudos to him for playing it perfectly.
