The fact that this has to even be talked about is insane to me. Absolutely insane. Did they not understand the magnitude of what JUST happened, last night??? Mac isn't stupid, and I think he's pretty calculated and careful with what he says. His choice of words in that interview are on purpose. We/He shouldn't even be in a spot where he has to publicly say "if it was my choice"

Blossom and Hendrickson absolutely have the ability to F this up.

Politics aside, if all of this is about money I do not really understand why we can't match what Greg is looking for. All of his comments in the past lead me and many others on this board to believe that he will retire after seeing this next "Big 3" through, so 4 years maximum. This is not a lifetime contract for a 45 year old, he will be off the books in half a decade. You will almost certainly be able to pay whoever follows him a lot less and make up the difference in the same amount of time. I am certainly over simplifying this, but it just does not make sense to me. Especially with how masterful Greg has been in handling this in the public eye. If he moves on, the entire CBB world will know it was because we refused to pony up for the coach with over a decade of tenure that has done what many thought impossible here. The heat from national CBB media would be intense. I would hope Blossom and Fr. are wise enough to realize how hot of a fire they are playing with, but who knows.

I agree with most of this. They're not *stupid*, but obviously incredibly stubborn and pompous.

Isn't this being "talked about" because Trilly Donovan threw his name out as a possibility for the Ohio State job? And isn't the rest of the "talk" just a bunch of escalating online chatter about "paying the man."

Mac signed a 4-year extension less than two years ago, plus whatever he had on his previous deal.
“He’s worked hard to get this deal done,” McDermott said of Blossom. “I’m forever indebted to him for that. It’s kind of a tough thing to have thrown on your plate the first year. And I recognize that that’s not easy, but he got it to the finish line.”

Some of these posts make it sound like we're in some sort of crisis at this very moment. Jesus, enjoy the win over UConn.

No? I don't understand why some posters/fans think this is all fan fiction, and is brand new simply because Trilly named Mac as a candidate. Yes, the discussion got revamped because of that, but this has been brewing ever since Ras "retired", Blossom was hired, and so forth. Don't know how many times or how many different people have to talk about and what they've heard to be true, and it all lines up pretty similarly. If you don't want to believe that there is any strife, that's fine. No one can convince you. What does Trilly naming Mac have to do with Mac saying what he said in that interview today? He clearly wants a raise. And deserves it.

Maybe it's just me, but I would consider having the best coach in school history feeling underpaid and not seeing eye to eye with leadership/admin a crisis, yes. The win over UConn makes its even more insane.

Look I obviously appreciate what Mac has done, and we should back up a Brinks truck if needed, but this is not Coach K level of success we are talking about. I don't think anyone would have thought making a single Elite Eight in 12 seasons would be impossible for basically any program, let alone a 'high' mid-major or now just a high major.

Creighton is in a very advantageous situation as far as city size without an NBA team within 400 miles in the top tier of college basketball conferences. Sometimes you gotta breath a little bit.

Mac has said exactly the same things before as far as "if they will have me" when it comes to remaining in Omaha. Maybe it means something, maybe not. Nothing I do or say is gonna make a bit of difference, I do know that.

He's also not asking for Coach K type money. He's asking to be compensated for what he's worth and what he's produced. He's nowhere near that right now.
