I know Mac goes with players he “trusts “, but he also starts freshman players if the talent is there. He gave the keys to run the offense to Nembhard and started others from the great recruiting class. Traudt is a player with that kind of upside and level to trust immediately. I guess we will see. I am excited for next year especially if we sign the two visiting today.

+1. Before the '21 trio, it was Zegarowski. Pretty sure he averaged 30 minutes his freshman year. Last one before that was Patton.

Couple common themes between all these guys that made it a logical decision to play them. They were all talented, and they all addressed a significant roster need. A legit stretch big will take this team to the next level. I'm just saying that if Traudt has the goods he needs to play. I trust Mac to assess that.

I think Traudt will be a special player, but the same goes for Miller. They are different types right now, if Kaluma did depart, they both get a lot of minutes and be big contributors.

All I'm saying is don't sleep on Miller - I'm expecting a big jump from him this year and for him to make a difference for us

The other difference with him playing Zegarowski as a freshman, playing the freshman last year, etc. is that when those guys came in their first year there was nobody else on the roster that they were supplanting or pushing out of minutes to get that playing time. Trey didn't start until midway through the season last year, either. And none of those guys were starting and pushing past somebody else who was then a real risk to jump into the transfer portal and bolt the next year because the portal wasn't what it is now. So that's changed the dynamics and the sensitivity around balancing minutes a bit, too.

I think we all really like both of these guys and hope to see a lot of them. I just don't expect to see Traudt jumping Miller before the season starts.

Say they return all four remaining starters and land both a starting guard and a sixth-man type. If Mac goes 9 deep (assuming the bench guys can stay on the court this year and Mac trusts them a little more), you're looking at something like:

Transfer G (30)
Alexander (30), Farabello (12)
Scheierman (30), Transfer Guard/Wing (20)
Kaluma (28), Traudt/Miller/Green (10)
Kalkbrenner (30), King (10)
That leaves Dotzler plus whoever they else they add out of the regular rotation (up to two scholarships to fill).

Let's just speculate that Kaluma doesn't return and that they land both of this weekend's visitors. We're looking at something like:

Ashworth (30)
Alexander (30), Farabello (12)
Scheierman (30), Rohde (21)
Traudt/Miller/Green (37)
Kalkbrenner (30), King (10)
Again, that leaves Dotzler plus whoever they else they add out of the regular rotation.

Point is I'm not sure "needs" will matter much because if they hit on their top targets there probably won't be minutes leftover for anybody else (unless they recruit over Farabello and land three rotation guards out of the portal, or recruit over that PF trio including a guy they just added in Traudt). With two scholarships left, maybe you target a young wing/guard, maybe a third center with upside for scout team purposes (remember, Yates is gone).

Another thought here is maybe the Jays target a kid who has transferred once and would have to sit then be ready to go after next season when there are more minutes available. Then again, a kid transferring for a second time is at least a yellow flag if not red.

Likewise.

While we are waiting: does anyone have a take on Rohde defensively?

Is there a .gif showing someone repeatedly pounding refresh on Twitter or this board looking for the first piece of news?
