“ Cleveland State senior D'Moi Hodge is in the transfer portal.

Hodge, a 6’4” guard averaged 15.4 points on 48% shooting, 3.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 2.2 steals per game. Was named horizon league Defensive POTY this past season, and earned all Horzion league 1st team honors.”

No reported interest yet but name to watch. Could start on the wing for us with his size. Excellent defender. 34% from 3 on 5.8 attempts a game.

Also considering a return to LSU.

Raw numbers aren't eye popping, he shoots well from 3 (40%) but he's #6 of all transfers per EvanMiya which is based on advanced metrics. Started 30 games for LSU last year. Watched some highlights, dude is super athletic as well.

That's crazy! How do you know him? Cool that he talked to YOU!!!

I sleep in May. Kidding aside, I don't know how to make his tweet show up so I just copy and paste lol.

EvanMiya also had the Jays as number 99 in his team rankings.

I would be surprised if we signed anyone but a back up big man. There is one scholarship available, so I doubt we should be expecting a flood of last minute commits. I suppose plan b could be to use an existing player at the 5 when Kalk rests, but it seems pretty risky to me to go with only one true big man.

No way, it's still early. We will get a backup big and another wing, I would be shocked if we didn't atleast get 2 new players. It would be foolish to think no one is transferring out (hopefully no one from our core group). We are interested in alot of wings/guards.

There’s still only one scholarship left. Unless someone leaves, voluntarily or not, there’s no money for the second guy. Is my math wrong? I admit my understanding of how all of this works may be flawed, so if I am, that would be great. I would love to bring on two new guys, I just don’t see how that would be possible with the current roster.

I suppose somebody could leave, but that seems unlikely at this point, since Mac has probably already had his year end meetings with the current players. Again, I’m not claiming any inside knowledge, just looking at the numbers.

I guess we will see if any bench guys transfer. Kancleris, Christofilis, Rati, Miller? If I had to pick one, I’d say Kancleris would be the most likely suspect.

No doubt the transfer portal complicates things and makes timing critical, like how to hold guys interest until we know who’s in and who’s out.

You're not wrong on the scholarship count, but if they see two players in the portal they think can push them over the top they're going to make room. New players are entering the portal every single day; don't assume the roster is 100% set just because we haven't heard anything yet.

No assuming here. I see the light and think you’re correct that if they find two difference makers, someone gets the axe. Makes one wonder about how direct the conversations between player and coach are at this time of year. The lost scholarship looms large at a crucial time, but then there’s never a good time to absorb that kind of loss.
