If there's one thing I learned a long time ago, it's that it is never worth it to apply your own logic and thought process -- no matter how reasonable it may seem to you -- to what recruits will do. This used to be most apparent with local kids who decided to go to big name schools where virtually everyone with a pulse could see they were going to end up sitting on the bench instead of actually playing, like they could for one of the local schools (and not just us, but UNO / UNL, etc.). Now it's as much about competition for spots for guys who actually do have what it takes to play anywhere, the new NIL opportunities, "fit," etc.
To *me* UVA doesn't seem like a logical fit for him. But if that's his choice, I wish him all the best and will be watching to see how he takes advantage and progresses. Maybe it improves his defense and that makes him more marketable down the road, even if it seems like a poor fit for someone with his offensive versatility. It's a great school, great coach, etc.
It beats seeing him pass up Creighton for the place down the road. Always want the really highly regarded local kids to stay here with us. Think there are so many benefits and positives to them doing so -- from competition, to family being able to watch, to NBA prospects, to crowd size, to local NIL opportunities, etc. But I won't fault a kid for taking a chance on what he and his family sees as a real opportunity -- unless that means going to UNL. Then all bets are off!
