I really like Hawkins as a player and moreso as a fit. Think he's the perfect mold for our system and what we need next year with so many young players. He's the priority.

Would he have to sit a year, or apply for a waiver to not sit? My understanding from the new NCAA guidelines put out yesterday, if a player had previously transferred, he isn't eligible to transfer again, using the "COVID exception", and not sit out a year. Unless I read that wrong.

For example, as I understand it, if Antwann Jones or AOC decided to enter the transfer portal today, and go to another D1 school, they'd have to sit out because they've previously transferred. While any other player who hasn't previously transferred would not have to sit out.

Here's the info released by NCAA that I'm talking about: http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/eligibility_center/Transfer/OneTime_Transfer.pdf

Hawkins is more of a 3/4 along with Mason. Antwann, Hawkins, and Mason will all split all the minutes at the 3/4. Plenty of minutes to share for those 3 between the 2 positions.

I'd personally rather have a bigger dude backing up Kalk than Feazell, but again if the coaches were to make this move I'd be all in.

He’s 6’9, 235.

6'9", 235. Recruited out of HS by Baylor, Texas, Alabama, Iowa St and Pitt. Mississippi's 2nd ranked player in HS. 3.8 GPA (high school; don't know how he's done in college).

Double-digit rebounding in nine games out of 21 this past year. Even against nebraska, he grabbed 11 boards. Has no shooting range, apparently, but take away his handful of ill-advised 3 attempts, he shot 58% from the field, and 76% from the line. A little turnover and foul-prone, sure, (around 3 per game, each) but he also had 25 of his team's 49 blocks.

If we're looking for somebody with experience who can fill the middle behind Kalk (even though he's listed as a forward) and it seems to me, anyway, we should be, I think we could do way, way worse.

Short of this, NUgradCUfan will be disappointed. :D :D 8-)

Am I weird in wanting a post player who CAN'T shoot? Just some brute that will bang around inside, get all the defensive rebounds, keep possessions alive with offensive boards, use up a few fouls, set punishing screens, wear out the opposing team, not be a nightmare at the FT line, and never attempt a shot outside of 10 feet? A guy that the Jay Bilases of the world can't describe without using the term "high motor"? Sign me up for one of those on this roster.

I think it depends on the circumstances of the prior transfer. For example -- Jones transferred and sat out a year. So I think he can transfer if he wants and not sit out, because he has never had that opportunity yet. AOC transferred and did *not* sit out a year, so I don't think he can transfer again without sitting out a year. I assume this guy did sit out a year when he transferred from Mississippi State because there was no rule then that would have allowed the one "free" transfer, and he hasn't taken advantage of that opportunity yet.

His stats aren't eye popping, maybe. But he averaged nearly a double-double last year in the first full year he has played since his freshman year (seems to have played very little in the prior couple of years), is a big body with experience who can eat up some space and give others a breather and hopefully go out and grab boards. If the coaches see an opportunity for him, cool.

I'd love to add him... as the third center on the depth chart. Not that he's bad, of course, but I think we could do better in the portal. Ever since Tini went down a few seasons ago, we've carried 3 centers on our roster so we aren't so short handed that we have to play a 4 at that spot for big minutes like Toby did. If Feazell can rebound well, play passable defense, and give 10 or so high energy minutes a night, that's all you really need from a third center.
