My opinion: yeah, Marcus matters a lot. Any transfer leaving another program wants immediate minutes, and a lot of them. The non-Marcus guards CU has aren't that experienced or proven. You can even say that about Shereef, so transfers may think, "I can go in there and get those guard minutes against THAT competition." But if an established, pre-season All American candidate who plays most of the 40 minutes of a game is part of the equation, that is quite a bit less playing time for guards.

Any transfer looking for guard minutes at Creighton is factoring in Marcus' situation considerably, IMO.

Marcus has a tough call. Preseason this year, it looked like he would be a second round draft pick, if not a lower first round pick. He would for sure leave if he was reasonably certain someone would draft him at least in the second round. I have not seen him in any draft predictions being picked in the draft. He certainly wants to get a shot in the NBA, but the free agent route G league route is a tough way to make it. He does not seem interested in going to Europe/China. He is turning 23 this August, so if he comes back for another year, he would be 24 as a rookie in the NBA, something you do not see often. I hope he comes back, as I do believe he would have a better year being hopefully injury free and it would increase his draft stock. But that call is a lot easier for someone turning 21-22 than 23. The biggest thing I see is his steely determination and desire to be an NBA player like his bro. Maybe that translates to signing as free agent and showing his stuff that way. It seems going overseas is even a tougher route to the NBA for those who played college ball here in US.

The supporting cast around Marcus will take a definite step back next year. I’m not sure how much his stock is going to improve if he stays.

The quietness makes some sense to me. If I were a transfer, looking for opportunity, I wouldn't commit to Creighton without knowing what DJ, Marcus and Mitch were doing, considering those three each averaged 43 minutes per game. DJ made his intentions known, so that's one down. The other two are Creighton legends and deserve to take their time with this very important decision - but until they do, I wouldn't expect much activity, especially from point guards.

That said, if you're a 6'7" wing, or a big guy, looking for minutes - Creighton is pretty groovy! Does "groovy" appeal to today's youth? I'd be over the moon if we could get those commitments

Does Marcus matter? We aren’t recruiting PGs. We have 3 others on the roster.

Of course Marcus matters. We are a much more attractive landing spot for wings and bigs with an All-American point guard.

Taze would bring tons of experience as this will be his 6th year after a medical redshirt his soph. year.

Now that this guy's going to Houston, two questions: 1) Does Bluejay Basketball's Baghdad Bob still think he's a left-handed Michael Jordan, or is he just some transfer from Cal St-Bakersfield; and 2) Did all his Youtube scouting find a left-handed Larry Bird, or a right-handed James Harden, or an any-handed Magic Johnson in the portal, because we should probably go get those guys.

I've been to Aberdeen to watch Northern State and they have a very good program, a nice arena and big loud crowds. They take their basketball serious and they've had some nice looking players. Parker seems to be one of those players that could help the Jays. I hope Parker picks Creighton but my gut says Minnesota with CU making his top 3.

But is he a left-footed Larry Bird?

No comparison to Bird. Bird is my favorite player of all time and possibly the greatest player of all time but Parker can jump about 2 feet higher than Bird. Parker and Bird are somewhat similar in height and hair.

Interesting tweet from Jeff Goodman:

DePaul and Minnesota both currently have 9 scholarship guys transferring out.

St. John’s and Utah close behind with 8.

That’s just insanity - i don’t get why so many players are convinced the grass is greener elsewhere
