Ummm. Yeaaah. When the season is over, Mac might want to get those golf clubs cleaned up, maybe put some new line on the fishin poles. I just dont see this ending well. Minor details of having a racist as a coach.

Come on, Mac isn't a racist, look at his years of body of work, interactions...etc. tons of players and people of all colors around him saying it's entirely out of character including Mr Ernie Chambers and a terrible racially insensitive analogy he poorly used, but Mac isn't a racist...saying so doesn't help the dialogue. Did you read the Josh Jones article?!? However, as some others have said and I've thought before since this incident, I am not sure he survives this after the season as that one mistake of 25+ years of coaching with his terrible choice of words could really negatively impact his ability to recruit as recruits don't know him like those who've known him for years might not be able to look past it.

Felt like this was coming, will be interesting to see what they do with his spot. Hopefully we can keep Ryan, Mason, and John in the mix.

Just because Mac isn’t actually a racist doesn’t mean he’s not going to be viewed as a racist in the eyes of future recruits. Because of this comment he’s capped on his future potential as a coach, in my opinion

This summarizes it. He can reconcile with his former players, coaches, current players and the community, but recruits that don't know him? Nope.

Personally I don't think in 3 years the plantation comment matters at all. I could be wrong but I just don't see it having staying power. Even if we hit a home run hire, we wouldn't even be close to this level of player 3 years from now with a new coach.

I am not convinced that starting over was the smarter option, here. You can always start over. Prior to this Mac is probably a top-20 coach in the country. This is a knock, for sure, but at least give him a chance to show he can overcome this. If it doesn't work, then get rid of him and start over, just like you would have done anyway.

EXACTLY. Why people thought this wouldn't be a problem is beyond me.
If Mac has some modicum of long term interest in the program, he'll step aside at the end of the season. If not, it's hard to see how we don't crater to the bottom of the conference in a few seasons. We won't win if we're having to settle for MVC type talent.

Maybe. Maybe not. Hard to speculate when you don't even know who would be a new coaching staff.

As far as it not mattering in 3 years... only if we win. Right or wrong, winning cures all (from a strict basketball perspective). If this current recruiting class, with the current staff, falls apart then we may not have a team as close to the caliber of the past two rosters. UConn is in the league now and recruiting like crazy. St. John's is getting better. Butler has super-talented freshmen. Nova isn't going anywhere.

IMO we've been a top 4 conference program since joining the Big East, with one three-way tie for the regular-season title to show for it. If we can't make a splash now, how are we going to do with lesser recruiting? Winning is the only way to dig out of this hole.
