Was a little loose with the ball today. More turnovers than yesterday but quite a few more dimes. About the same number of points, 8-10.

Again, he’s a good defender, has great court awareness and passes well. His shot from distance seems to need a little work - sort of a push shot.

Wish we would have seen TyTy against Ryan this weekend on ESPN3. COVID sucks.

Has a Fred VanVleet vibe to his game.

Headed to Creighton, four-star senior point guard Ryan Nembhard was also outstanding. He's not the biggest guy around, he's not the strongest either. What he is, though, is one of the smartest. Nembhard figured out the tempo of the game early and did what he could to control it on both ends. His on the ball defense was aggressive and set a ton. He took care of the ball on offense and his ability to touch the paint off the dribble and create for others and himself was notable. There's also a toughness about him that his teammates feed off of. He finished with 10 points, five rebounds and four assists while playing all 32 minutes. It should be noted that he was the only player on either team to play every minute and that says a lot about what Montverde coach Kevin Boyle thinks about his importance. He's got a style reminiscent of brothers Tyus Jones and Tre Jones and looks to be a great fit for Creighton

Nembhard is the same mold of underrated player like Marcus Z was, probably not as good a shooter as Marcus as a prospect, but a better defender, and about equal toughness. Our future is very bright with him, Ty Ty, Miller, John C coming in, and Rati hopefully recovered, plus Kalkbrenner improving exponentially.

After seeing him twice now--a really, really good game and kind of a meh game--I'm reminded of a different Jays PG.

I don't think of Z, because Nembhard doesn't look like the perimeter threat Marcus is. I agree with L Jay--his 3pt shot form is funky; he's looks like he's launching more than shooting. (BTW, his bio page says his basketball goal is "to get a better jump shot", so it sounds like he's not satisfied with it either). And I sure don't think of Mo when I see Nembhard. Mo was a high risk/high reward guy who liked to operate in traffic and show off his ball-handling. I think Nembhard's more conservative in his style of play and values the ball more.

The former Jay I'm reminded of is Dotzler, except Nembhard's been playing at a much higher level than Josh did, and for a very long time. He's not flashy, although he can be if he needs to be. Like Dotzler, I think he's more interested in taking care of the ball and setting everybody else up in the best position he can. And it looks like he takes his defense pretty seriously. The kind of PG a coach with a high-powered offense can fall in love with.

Hoopseen top performer:

There is no doubt that the Montverde team is stacked with talent. There is a reason they are the No. 1 team in the nation. Balancing and managing talent as a point guard is a harder task than it may seem. Spreading the love amongst a roster full of high-major players takes a special kind of decision-maker. Nembhard was outstanding that role.

His value doesn’t show up as a scorer. He’s not going to burn a defense as a drop dead shooter or an athletic rim attacker. Instead, he systematically carves up a defense with his smarts and decision-making. Paired up against IMG in the premier game of the high school season, Nembhard was awesome Just awesome.

He averaged 6.1 assists a game stretched out over seven contests. When the right play was needed, Nembhard delivered. As you look at Creighton’s incoming class - it’s loaded and one of the best overall in the 2021 class - he’s going to pair so nicely with the likes of TyTy Washington. That’s a scary 1-2 punch to guard.

Ryan Nembhard was Montverde’s most important player at the Saint James. Tonight he was clutch again. The
