Bossi's take on Nembhard:

Headed to Creighton, four-star senior point guard Ryan Nembhard was also outstanding. He's not the biggest guy around, he's not the strongest either. What he is, though, is one of the smartest. Nembhard figured out the tempo of the game early and did what he could to control it on both ends. His on the ball defense was aggressive and set a ton. He took care of the ball on offense and his ability to touch the paint off the dribble and create for others and himself was notable. There's also a toughness about him that his teammates feed off of. He finished with 10 points, five rebounds and four assists while playing all 32 minutes. It should be noted that he was the only player on either team to play every minute and that says a lot about what Montverde coach Kevin Boyle thinks about his importance. He's got a style reminiscent of brothers Tyus Jones and Tre Jones and looks to be a great fit for Creighton

I recorded the game, just finished watching it, and I agree with everything above about yesterday's game. We've got a gem.

The kid's a pure distributor, but also an efficient scorer, both inside and outside. His layup style, at least yesterday, is an underhand release from a couple feet away high off the board. Reminded me of Mitch. He's always in control, never flustered. His coach said he could coach their team and he knows their playbook better than the staff. Oddly, there were 14 ESPN ranked players just in that one game, but Nembhard wasn't one of them. But he might have gotten more favorable comments from the announcers than anyone. He looks like the point guard college coaches dream about. Mac is going to love this kid. We all are.

Nembhard and Montverde play again today, 4 PM, ESPNU. Well worth a look. And, if anyone cares, nebraska's prized recruit, McGowins, is playing right now on ESPNU.

Just saw that Mcgowens is 1-13. LOL

McGowens finished 3 of 18, I think. Got a couple garbage layups at the end when La Lumeire didn't much care anymore. Still was game-high and scored half his team's total, but almost all of it came on FTs. The kid's a deadeye at the line, apparently (which, to be honest, is a novel concept at Creighton). But, just based on today, good defense can shut him down with little trouble. Doesn't look like an outside threat, even though he's a "shooting guard" (maybe he just had an off day). He wanted to score close in, but doesn't like to be bodied up and doesn't finish through contact very well (none of those free throws were and1s). I think he needs a solid year of college-level S&C. Also, appears to be turnover prone, even when not pressured. Should fit like a glove at nebraska.

One other thing about Nembhard yesterday: He was up against IMG's Jaden Bradley, the nationally top-rated point guard in the junior class, a top 10 prospect, a five star, naturally, and evidently headed for Kentucky. Nembhard was better. Way better. I wonder if ESPN will be revisiting their ratings after some of these tournaments are done. I'd bet Nembhard is in line for a serious upgrade. ESPN's analyst said it all when he said "Ryan Nembhard makes everybody better".

I agree. They also said Tamar Bates was the schitz on offense but didn’t get much help from others. Agreed. I doubt we get TyTy if Bates committed to Creighton but Bates is really good.

Ryan played really well against IMG, but he was also 2-10 from the field and 0-2 from 3 against Oak Hill a couple days ago. He's a great floor general and tenacious defender. The question is still how well he'll be able to shoot and score at the next level.

As for McGowens, he had two rough games back-to-back, but he was leading the event in scoring heading into yesterday's game against Bishop Walsh. The point guard on his team is headed to South Carolina, but they don't have much size and I wasn't really impressed with the team as a whole compared to others in this event. Makes sense with them being ranked 25th and most of the others are top 10.

McGowens is normally a dead-eye shooter with NBA range; he just didn't shoot well the last two days. Over 40% for his high school career I believe. The slight frame is definitely his biggest weakness and what will hold him back most; he's smooth and long more than he is explosive and gets knocked off balance pretty easily. He normally finishes some of the shots he missed today, though. It was just a horrible game for his entire team against a really good defensive team.

Based on the class we have coming in with him, Nembhard seems to have the perfect skill set. He is a great defender and is a pass first point guard. From what I've watched hes really good at drawing the defender in and tossing up the lob. Putting him on the floor with Tyty, Christofilis and Miller, he will have plenty of shooting and room to operate. Lastly he is on a team loaded with top 100 guys and appears to be the man everyone looks to and is the calming presence for the team. That is invaluable in college basketball and is what teams need to make tournament runs
