We can’t offer immediate playing time next year. Most of these other teams we’re losing to can, especially blue bloods with all the roster turnover they usually have with players declaring. And you can’t rely on sit out transfers anymore, especially with most transfers thinking they’re going to get waivers. Transfers want to go where coaches are going to fight for waivers for them. At the moment, we would not want to do that.

I'd prefer a couple of stud sit out transfers - but the sky is hardly falling because we missed on some guys who look like good fits

next year we'll be a TOP destination for grad/play immediate transfers - hopefully we'll have put together a top 5/10 deep NCAA run season - we'll have a shitload of playing time in an offense that a lot of recruits will kill to play in. lots to sell.

sure it'd be better to have them learn the system and do S&C for a year - but play the hand you're dealt.

plus - the current silly season is far from over.

Jays are likely a tough sell for almost all transfers. Still not official that one time waivers will be for 21-22 and beyond so you may have some hold out for that, and add in the unprecedented time we are living in with COVID and many feel they have a really good chance at becoming immediately eligible regardless. Even last year it seemed players essentially had a coin flip chance of becoming eligible.

Unless DJ Carton wants to truly sit out a year to focus on his mental health, it is hard to see many impact transfers that would come this year, as I think almost all of those guys would take their chances with a becoming immediately eligible at a school with PT available. Likely we will add someone like Kelvin who comes in initially as an emergency option and wants to be on a NCAAT team.

Hoping for Walton And/or Carton and bank the other ride(s) at this point.

You're asking for a crazy young, inexperienced team in 2020-21 that wouldn't be anywhere near gelled until maybe January. I mean I fully expect that season to be full-on rebuild given what we're losing after next April (please), but that would be really, really rough - maybe 14-15 level rough.
I think you still have to keep swinging even if you're striking out like we are right now.

We could still have MZ and Bishop to lead the team at that point plus Antwann Jones, Epperson and Kalkbrenner. I wouldnt mind a team with that core on 2 years

Do you really think Marcus will come back? If we do what we look like we're capable of doing next season, I'd expect Marcus to 1) get significant NBA attention and 2) take that route knowing that's his dream. And I'll say it again, counting on Jacob to play meaningful minutes in 20-21 or especially 21-22 is just not a wise proposition.

I lurked for quite a while before joining and don't recall anyone questioning Martin's ability to return. And remember - Tini had a couple of ACL injuries each in one knees (not recurring); Jacob had back issues and BROKE HIS LEG, in addition to, iirc, a separate knee injury. Totally different situation.

I would expect this coming season to be Marcus' last year in Omaha. Will be 22 in August and has had off season surgery the past two years.

It's going to be a long off-season if you think top transfers are jumping at the bit to commit to a school in Omaha, Nebraska sight unseen. COVID-19 has changed everything including the transfer game. I'm guessing most of these guys are heading to places they've at least seen before, there's an existing coach relationship, etc. Plus, we are stacked for next season. Maybe a grad transfer/immediately eligible transfer could figure out a way to get 10 minutes per game? A three year starter just left our program because he can't sniff the floor so why would anyone else come here? I'd like a sit transfer, but a lot of these guys are already getting waivers - and a big chunk of the rest of the transfers I'm guessing want to be in a position to play if the NCAA decides to permit immediate eligibility later this summer.

I'm not the least bit worried.

can't close on everyone. I understands the frustration but Jays are working really hard right now on a number of fronts.

Cant sign player A if they sign player B/C/D/E/F alot of the time.

Worse case scenario, Jays SIGN NO ONE in the transfer market, which is unlikely, and they dont get Walton. Well how much more attractive is Creighton to a player like Hunter Sallis or Tamar Bates. Makes it a much easier sell on them.

What you need to be thinking is not that we keep whiffing, but rather would you rather have Caleb Grill or Tamar Bates, Aaron Estrada or Hunter Sallis causing landing one of the former targets inhibits the pitch to the 2021s.

We’ve reached out to Michigan guard David DeJulius. https://twitter.com/jakeweingarten/stat ... 78976?s=21

“Michigan transfer David DeJulius has heard from 10+ high-major programs, he told @Stockrisers. The latest: Auburn and Creighton. Fully expect the list of suitors to grow for the former Wolverine.“

He’s small for a 2 guard, but I think he’s a good player. Watched him several times this year. Can shoot it, plays really hard
