So regardless of when they transfer/redshirt they still lose it right?

Meaning if I redshirt my Freshman year, play two seasons and decide to transfer after my 2nd season of playing I will be a senior the next time I am able to play correct?

If someone transfers within their conference and has to sit out 2 years (unless I made that rule up) they would lose a year of eligibility that way as well right?

Guess it makes sense you don't want a kid transferring every year to maintain his 4 years of eligibility until he is 28, but sucks for kids who aren't trying to abuse it.

Correct. You use your redshirt year if you have it, if you don't you lose eligibility no matter if you sit out or not. An inconference transfer would make you lose two years of eligibility, unless you have a redshirt, then you'd just lose one.

Also, remembering more about him, I believe he wanted to play relatively close to home. But considering all of the BCS programs close to home are in the Big Ten, my guess is UNI, Creighton & Drake would all be at the top of his list unless he wants to sit out two years to go to Iowa.

Big 10 has some unique rules. As I understand it, if a kid from a Big 10 school transfers to another Big 10 school, he can't get a scholarship from that school no matter how long he sits out. As a result, if he is really transferring, the other Big 10 schools are out. Transfer U, a/k/a Iowa State, would seemingly be in play too if he wants to be close to home.

Wisconsin board seems to know nothing about this as a poster on the Iowa board seems to be the only source, I'd say this is a unlikely at this point...

I'm hearing that this rumor is true -- Uthoff is leaving Wisky.

No idea where he is going yet. Heck he may even go to a JUCO for a year so that he can actually play.

I do hope our staff is on this as he would be a perfect fit and a long term replacement for Doug.

Yeah, the only place to appeal is to the NCAA but there is almost no chance they will change anything as they never have before - basically if the coach doesn't release you, the NCAA isn't going to overrule him because that has the potential for a massive cascading effect. The NCAA's attitude is that if they want to use a scholarship on you out of spite, that's their prerogative. It's going to take a truly extreme case to change that.
