That'd be odd. He'd be sitting out for two straight years before he ever sees the court. From what I remember though that kid is SKINNY. So I'm sure he's gotten bigger already being at Wisconsin and another year of working out probably wouldn't be all bad.

Wow this is interesting to say the least.

If I remember correctly, Uthoff was the staff's "top priority" when Mac first got here - according to Perrault anyway.

So he redshirted last season, then would sit out this season - meaning he would be a freshman when Doug is a senior?

The first year he'd be able to play, he'd be a sophomore. He would lose eligibility next year. Unless he has a sick family member living in Omaha or something, then he could play right away. Like Jake Kelly did for ISU-B.

So he loses the year of eligibility he would have to sit out for transferring?

That is dumb.

I assume he is aware of that... :?

No, he would be a freshman this year whether he plays or not, leaving him as a soph the following year.

If this works out, Mac's never burn bridges or get upset when spurned by a recruit philosophy that has been written about with Gibbs, would be successful again.

Personally, I think a transfer is the best addition to the roster as PT this coming season may be hard to come by. With departures after the season by Jones, Big Greg and most likely Gibbs, there should be quite a bit of playing time opening up. Uthoff would also be a nice little insurance policy JUST IN CASE Dougie turns himself into a lottery pick next year...

Pretty exciting if true.

Yeah, he loses a year of eligibility just like Gibbs did. (Yes, Gibbs may be able to get that year back, but it would be because of injury, not just because he transferred.)

Transfers are required to sit out a year after transferring. Usually these transfers haven't already redshirted, so they use their redshirt in the year they're required to sit out, thus not losing a year of eligibility.

In this case, since the redshirt isn't available, he'll have to use a year of eligibility.

Gotcha. That makes more sense but sucks that you lose a year of eligibility without playing.

So regardless of when they transfer/redshirt they still lose it right?

Meaning if I redshirt my Freshman year, play two seasons and decide to transfer after my 2nd season of playing I will be a senior the next time I am able to play correct?

If someone transfers within their conference and has to sit out 2 years (unless I made that rule up) they would lose a year of eligibility that way as well right?

Guess it makes sense you don't want a kid transferring every year to maintain his 4 years of eligibility until he is 28, but sucks for kids who aren't trying to abuse it.
