Had an interesting convo this weekend with a few Jays fans. Do not know anything and this is all speculation............
Wonder, with how quiet things can be sometimes coming out of the hilltop, are any of the following possible transfer candidates? Possible reasons; Preston Murphy out, 'see writing on the wall', more success at a lower level program?........
DMintz - IMO, doubtful
TSAlexander - IMO, can't see it, but crap you never know and he's a Preston recruit. Hmmmm
DJefferson - IMO, probably most likely candidate. Some like DJ's game, I personally wonder if his fit is legit.
MBallock - IMO, VERY doubtful
DMahoney - I'd like to believe he isn't a possibility.......but, you got to wonder a little.
MZegarowski - I sure hope not........long way from home, and you can never really write that off.

I sure hope all come back.........but, like LJay states, "Still don't know HOW MANY PLAYERS ARE RETURNING but coaches know." I think after tonight's game, I think all hell breaks loose nationally on transfers and Creighton will get a couple, at least! Here's hope Froling is the only transfer from Creighton!

You never know if someone is coming back or not, but you can guess based on playing time and availability of a redshirt to sit a year. Nobody wants to give up a year of playing time in order to leave -- unless they are incredibly unhappy. Unless Jefferson went to a lower level, he'd lose a full year of potential playing time by sitting out, while the guys who have a RS remaining are guys who seem to have playing time lined up (e.g., Ballock, Zegarowski, Alexander, etc.)

Jefferson was with Huss at New Mexico. Huss knew what Damien was able to do there and he knew what Damien needed to work on. If the coaches didn't think he would have fit in here, they'd have never recruited him in the first place.

He looked really good early on. His shooting brought something to our offense during the non-conference that we couldn't really capture the rest of the season. Now was that early season shooting stretch not representative of his actual shooting capability? I don't know. Did teams late in the OOC (Nebraska, Gonzaga, OU) and in early BE play finally game plan to cover him? Yes, for sure.
The other thing worth mentioning is that I really do believe that to see the most out of him (rebounding, defense) that he needs to be 100% healthy and he definitely wasn't fully recovered even during the NIT run.
I do worry about his confidence. I remember that there were several articles that discussed his tough times during the redshirt season. But he's made it this far and the staff will remind him of that and keep encouraging him to push thru.

I fully expect him to be here next season and I think he'll be a key contributor in terms of rebounding and defense. If his shooting is as good as it was at the start of this season he's going to play a big role and probably play starters minutes (if not start period).

"Unless Jefferson went to a lower level....." Exactly why I threw him into the mix. I always felt that he seemed to work very hard at his game this past off-season. Here's hoping he does the same this off-season, and stays at Creighton. He could be a valuable asset to the team the next two seasons!

But, there was no guarantee he would fit.

**He wasn't a very good outside shooter at New Mex. What he did at beginning of this past season was primarily against the lesser OOC competition. It was a VERY pleasant surprise, and it was based upon his hard work in the off-season. That injury really caused some confidence issues.

The other thing worth mentioning is that I really do believe that to see the most out of him (rebounding, defense) that he needs to be 100% healthy and he definitely wasn't fully recovered even during the NIT run.

**With all of this said, and like I said in an earlier post.........if he works as hard, if not harder than he did last off-season. Then the "pleasant surprise" that DJ was this past season exists..........but, will it be all season? That's where I really wonder!

Keep an eye on Cincy job. If Frank Martin leaves for the Bearcats, I could see former Creighton target AJ Lawson again a priority for Creighton if he enters the Transfer Portal

Pretty hefty buyout for a school like Cincy to pay to pull him from South Carolina.

He's a stud. Yes, please.

Although I'd imagine there would be a ton of competition. May not even have room for him if he comes available if Moore, Windham, and Enaruna commit

We'd make room.

make room?.....don't we have 3 open spots with questions on return of Krampelj and Mahoney?

I'll worry about room for a guy like Lawson when we actually have some signed LOIs.

Yeah it’s not an issue but even if it was we aren’t gonna pass on Lawson. That kid is a baller.
