With that said, signing Tristan would be frosting on the cake already made.

Pretty hard to sell playing time to the 2019 class unless you are a stretch 4 type like Enaruna. 2020 class will be a little easier to sell playing time to guards.

That is true with some players but immediate playing time is usually not discussed as teams already have returning starters. Style of play and how recruits fit into the program are what is usually discussed to recruits. Some coaches will never talk about playing time or telling a recruit they will start their first year. There are also some recruits that that don't mind redshirting as it gives them one more year of free schooling towards their masters. That's like the school giving you an extra $80,000.

Honestly, don't remember the last freshman that we recruited that redshirted. Patton? Doesn't seem like we are recruiting as many developmental prospects now that we left the MVC.

I mean, Epperson. He was forced out of his RS cause of injury.

True. I guess we will still see it with the occasional big man. Just seems like if a guard isn't ready to play right away and requires a redshirt, he's never going to be good enough to play.

If we land Enaruna, I'd rather use the other scholarship on a quality transfer that is going to have to sit a year than on a 2019 kid that will have to redshirt.

Higher level recruits generally do not want to redshirt. They have plenty of options and will, most of the time, select a place where they don't have to redshirt. That is a reality that we as fans are going to have to adjust to seeing.

And that's okay, because the redshirt year will be available for the player who comes to Creighton and is inevitably injured.

Unfortunately, it also gives them the chance to use the Redshirt when transferring as well. Can't blame the kids, though, it really is a tough sport and fit means a lot to one's overall possibility of success.

We have used the RS nicely for some bigs. I'm happy we had it for Epperson (makes getting the medical RS easier), and would have liked to RS either Froling or Bishop if Epperson had been healthy... although Bishop didn't want to, apparently. He did need to time to develop his skillset. Hopefully a nice offseason will add a lot of offensive polish

I am especially optimistic about Bishop. He has the athleticism to be a significant force down low. I see him with potential to be 15-20 ppg player. He just needs to slow his game down a little and add strength.

And maybe improve his free throw shooting by about 20-25%

hilltopalum wrote:asked about 2019 & 2020 in Cam Thomas thread:

Jays seem to want a 4 in to finish off 2019. They have two open spots at the moment and could have 3 in Martin goes pro. I know they'll be active in the transfer market. They were active over the winter break but a worthwhile player did not become available. They looked at the Oregon kid and peaked in at Arizona's transfer but neither fits the bill.

For 2019:

Tristan Enaruna is the name. He continues to grow and would fit the system perfect. Another name to watch is the rapid rising Zane Meeks from KS who is playing a Brewster. Stretch four who was injured during last summer evaluation period. Rumors are he could be doing a post-grad year to help his stock. David Skogman is another name to watch.

Outside those two, look for the Jays to be involved with a few different transfers

For 2020:

Jays seems to really like Ben Carlson, another 4 from Minnesota. Xavier Foster has been a long time target from Iowa. However lately the Dukes, UNCs, USCs, have joined Iowa and Iowa State for his services. Cam'ron Fletcher is another the Jays evaluated early but the bluebloods are circling. Cameron Thomas is a perfect fit for replacing Tyshon once he graduates but he too is getting ACC looks. Luke Kasubke, Jayden Stone, Caleb Love, and Ty Berry are a few others Jays have been linked with recently. I just posted about Bowen Born, the heady led guard from Norwalk, Iowa. I could very well see the Jays getting interested in him.

2021:

Jays REALLY like Matthew Mors out of SD but so does Wisconsin. He is the type of player I could see McDermott building a future around, much like Ballock. They're also very interested in Hunter Sallis from Millard.

Wondered if anything had changed due to Samson's departure. thanks!
