The Athletic’s preseason rankings came out, Creighton in at 14. I thought a couple blurbs were interesting:

1. “Isaacs seems set to take over at point guard”

2. “Don’t sleep on frontcourt players Traudt or McAndrew, either. Both have gotten recognition from NBA scouts who have been through to see Creighton practice.”

Watching the scrimmage, I don’t think Pop is anywhere close to taking over PG duties, he can run the offense to an extent, but we were definitely operating at a higher level when Ash was PG and Isaacs off the ball. I would expect some PG minutes from Pop depending on how the bench develops.

Good news on the Traudt and McAndrew development, having one or both of those guys being impact players gives us a chance to have another very special season.

Nothing new but still a good read. Love this quote:

I went to the McDermott luncheon at Cascio's today. There was one interesting thing he mentioned today that I don't remember hearing before. He said the combination of Pop Isaacs and Steven Ashworth at guard has been better than he anticipated, and this year's team might be the fastest team ever at Creighton. Should be fun to watch!

It would indeed be surprising..that team registered 74 possessions per game, and the following year (the disappointing first round loss to K-state year) was 74.5. Then for the Zeggie years, hovered around 71-72, then for the Kalk years, we've been around 70.5. We definitely slowed down our overall pace around the same time that our defense took a huge leap forward (Kalk's sophomore year). It makes sense considering the team was much more dependent on offense to win games during the Mo/Z years.

No one at CU has been faster and been able to drive a faster offense than Mo Watson IMO. He was just a special point guard. At this point I certainly don’t see anyone even close to him on the present team. That said, Ashworth and Isaacs together I can see playing pretty fast as a pair vs other CU pairs.

Pop looked incredibly quick when he got the ball and was making a move for himself. No clue how it’ll compare to Mo. The thing about Mo was that he was the primary initiator to bring the ball up the floor and go end to end, and we haven’t seen a ton of just pure end to end pushing from rebound to attacking the rim like Mo did.

Close this thread down! The season is here!

Not much in the way of good games but the season is underway and hard not to be excited to watch this version of the Jays and how the season unfolds
