On their 'schedule' thread, this was posted:

From TD's mouth on PST this week:

We are working on a home/home with Creighton starting in '14 if both of us can make it work, but we will not play them as long as Doug is still there.

I am actually surprised to hear this, and I mean that from both parties.

TD being Troy Dannen, their AD.

There is just no benefit playing UNI. I can see maybe a 2 for 1 with Drake for the proximity and Iowa recruiting.

I too would rather play Drake. UNI was always my most disliked team in The Valley & I think one of my favorite things about being in the new Big East is that there is no more UNI to deal with.

I actually think a H/H with Drake isn't a terrible idea. I enjoyed going to games in Des Moines and will actually miss it.

The funny thing is if Doug would've stayed at UNI we'd be begging them for a H/H right now as they start their first season in the Big East coming off their national championship season.

UNI's style is boring, boring basketball. I have zero interest in playing them. With a lack of any roadies that are in travel distance, I see there being some interest in a Drake series (although a 2 for 1 seems preferable). I really think that both Iowa and Iowa State better turn us down before we start talking with Drake/UNI though.

That article is interesting in the brief references to finances. One has to wonder about the economic viability of the two athletic departments. As the story indicates, UNI and Drake have lost yearly home games against Iowa/ISU, Creighton, bracketbusters home games and the MVC/MWC challenge. UNI only averages 4000 people and that's right after back to back NCAA tourneys and a Sweet Sixteen. Drake's numbers are in the same ballpark. It often appeared as though people came out to see the opponents rather than the home teams. That's not a good thing long term.
"But I truly care about Creighton and the fans and what they've done for me the last three years. I want to give them one more year and take care of business in the Big East so we can prove people wrong.'' ---- Doug McDermott

They can "want" to play CU all they want but there is a reason there are no quotes from Creighton coaches in that article.

Playing them at Wells Fargo may work where we have as many fans there as they do. I don't see us agreeing to playing in their 7,000 seat band boxes. It's going to be a while until this is even possible.

Actually there are some pretty funny things going on in that thread right now...first they say that Doug refuses to play UNI, then they say that Mac might walk away because of how much he and Ras disagreed with the move to the Big East, then when someone tries to suggest they move on from the Doug thing after this year because he is graduating he is quickly shot down because Doug would've turned them into an elite mid-major and they would be getting better talent based on that. Someone even said that if Doug went to UNI Lucas O'Rear never would've gotten injured. Message board GOLD

That whole UNI-would-be-a-national-power mindset just really drops my jaw. These people really, truly believe these things. Like actually believe them, not "I'm bitter so I'm going to spout off nonsense but really know better" thoughts.

Without going into it too much, Doug would never average more than like 15 ppg at UNI. Anything more is physically impossible with Jake's boring-ball style. There's a reason Dougie has blossomed here -- Grant Gibbs, Antoine Young, Austin Chatman and a really fun, up-and-down, fast style of basketball. Never in a million years would UNI play that way. It's the same reason I don't want UNI anywhere near our schedule. I don't even want to play teams that they play in case they've passed on some habits. It's early 2000s hacky, grabby, floppy SIU-ball except way worse -- they don't have SIU's athletes.

Wouldn't mind continuing the Drake series, even if it's home-and-home. But make them play the Des Moines games on Saturday nights -- no more of this Wednesday night to mitigate Jays fans baloney. We've played like 150 times. It's a nice, historic, geographic rivalry and a nice trip for us fans who might be hungry for more drivable trips soon. We now have the opportunity to much more easily recover from a loss at Drake than we did before.

UNI hoops fan by far. Nebraska at least won some football titles not *too* long ago. UNI was a D-II school like 20 years ago. They went to a Sweet 16. That was great. Creighton needs to do it a few times. They also won a couple Valley titles. But christ, you'd think they had a Wichita State baseball-like run with the way that they assume things would be if only for Doug McDermott.

Husker fans. Is that even a serious question? UNI fans are delusional but they do not reach the levels of UNL. Here's how it goes:
