"Southern Illinois wants me to play. Missouri State, Paul Lusk, wants me to play. Greg McDermott (at Creighton) called, he wants me to play … we've looked at maybe playing (the Bluejays) in Kansas City. I don't know. Again, we've got to play who's best for your program." - Bruce Webber

Interesting....neutral court game on national television would be better than a D2 team.

I don't think he was necessarily talking about next season only.

I'd also suggest that a neutral site game between Creighton and K State might send some residents of Wichita into orbit....
"But I truly care about Creighton and the fans and what they've done for me the last three years. I want to give them one more year and take care of business in the Big East so we can prove people wrong.'' ---- Doug McDermott

Future games against Drake and Northern Iowa? I hope not, not sure how playing them benefits us at all. Maybe Drake since we can pack that empty gym with Creighton fans but not sure going to Cedar Falls is of any benefit.

UNI no longer plays both Iowa and Iowa St? Do they rotate each year? Does Drake play either of the two state schools? I had not heard there was a change here. Too bad, I was always jealous of their arrangement

That article sounds a lot more like two coaches cheerleading (hoping?) than it does being something reciprocal. Plus the only place that says anything about us going on the road is the writer of the article stating that the biggest crowds in Cedar Falls and Des Moines came when we showed up; the coaches state how they'd like to add us to their slates but there's no hint of us hitting the road.

If they want to come here and we pay them, fine. If not, sign up Wichita if we're doing a home-and-away.

...of course, as soon as I say that, I surf over to the UNI board to see if they caught wind of the article.

On their 'schedule' thread, this was posted:

From TD's mouth on PST this week:

We are working on a home/home with Creighton starting in '14 if both of us can make it work, but we will not play them as long as Doug is still there.

I am actually surprised to hear this, and I mean that from both parties.

TD being Troy Dannen, their AD.

hilarious - like they're taking a stand about not playing us with doug.

we don't have room next year for them. moot point.

i see more value in playing drake than UNI. at least our fans can make that trek - and it keeps a toehold in iowa for the future

bottom line - we hold all the cards scheduling with these clowns.

Last year was the first of a four year series of a two game event played in Des Moines at the Wells Fargo Center. For example, Drake plays Iowa and UNI plays Iowa State and then they do the opposite the next year. Obviously the Iowa/Iowa State people didn't like the H/H that had been done in years past and used the conference changes with the Big 10 and Big 12 as an excuse to say it was tougher to schedule both Drake/UNI (much less go on the road against one of them) each season and that if they wanted to play that the only way it could be done is just with one of the teams each year and in this "neutral" location. Weak sauce, but just another example of the power those teams have--better to have something than nothing.

If the Big East schools can make a strong showing in this new alignment the first couple of years, this is a type of situation Creighton should never have to deal with again, but the MVC schools will deal with this in the foreseeable future.
