We have Doug, but we also have a lot of new guys. Might be prudent to get a game or two on the schedule where we can kick some ass early on.

+1

Normally, I'd be all over the staff for trying to schedule a D2 opponent, but this year our noncon is pretty damn salty and we need some developmental games. A D2 that doesn't impact the RPI is much better than a SWAC or MEAC school that kills it.

Okie St. is looking for a 'buy game' on the 8th at their place and a later game at Okie City (Neutral site)..

They will be in the Top 25 (anywhere from preseason 8th -14th) with Smart back...probable national tv. What the hell.

as has been said by others: Play the best to be the best. (Jays preseason 20th-Vitale to 23rd-Katz to NR)

i think we're going to see scheduling philosophy change

now that conference play will boost RPI and not lower it - we'll be looking for wins in the non-con not necessarily "resume builders"

and likely - instead of scheduling the high performing mid-majors like we have done in the past - we should be able to get some "names"

so - i'd expect husker game + body bag games + about two "name games"

Playing a DII school as a regular season game is really boring but probably smart if you want to game the system. Just don't do it too many times in one season or else you'll look like SDSU (they play several a season).

However, I definitely would not be scheduling a DII school if I were the decision maker. It's boring and lame. UNO's RPI was sub 300 last season and they're going to be even better next season. Scheduling somebody like them is funner in my mind than scheduling the likes of Augustana.

If you can't get teams in the top 200 in the RPI you should go D2. Playing UNO hurts your RPI for the entire season. Playing D2 isn't even remembered come January 1.

I'm fine with this as it's no different than scheduling two SWAC teams (without the RPI hit) which is our normal MO.

I hate the whole DII thing, too, but until the NCAA makes those games hurt the RPI, I can't argue the logic of it if the alternative is a bad D1 team.

I seem to recall somebody at CU indicating that UNO would get on the schedule eventually when their RPI isn't absolutely horrible, as it was last year. I don't have a problem with the Mavs and think it would be good for basketball in the area.

Buried in the bottom of this article is a note about the Jays possibly playing K-State in Kansas City in a future season:

that'd be cool - i think going head to head with KSU in the future on recruits will be fruitful for us.

if i'm a recruit - do i want to live in omaha or manhattan, ks? once we get a kid to visit - i think we win that

and who we play - ok young hoopster - do you want to go to NYC, philly, chicago, milwaukee, indy - or ames, lubbock, college station, norman, etc

again - advantage jays.
