In this brave new world, can someone transfer in and be immediately eligible?

I don’t know the answer here but hard to believe the toothless, neutered NCAA can stop immediate eligibility.

So this would indicate that the portal doesn’t open until March and thinking it through that now jibes with my recollection. Kids who have gone into the portal early have landed there after a coach has left and they are immediately available.

Jon Walker's report confirms the news that Larry had been suspended for a violation of team rules prior to announcing his transfer. That rumor had been out there since Vegas but no one had gotten a source to confirm it.

His story also notes the portal doesn't open until March 17 -- the day after Selection Sunday -- which is consistent with past years. Wouldn't surprise me if someone sued the NCAA to try and get an immediate midseason transfer, but at least for now, that's the earliest a player can transfer to another school.

Johnson leaving now doesnt surprise me given what we’ve been hearing, sounds like he been in the dog house for a bit. Knox I am surprised by. He’s not a player thats going to see many minutes here but it’s a knock on depth, and for him why not finish out the season and get practice reps and garbage time minutes? Makes no sense that one

I think Knox figured out he was brought in to be a a practice player.

You are probably right but why waste the year then? Either finish it out and get valuable reps and S&C or transfer before the season. His redshirt is already gone

Transfer mania. I could see why a coach like the guy at Virginia retired, Bennett. The days of building a program are over with at least in the NBA a player can sign multi-year deals. Of course nobody is discussing the academic side as kids that transfer schools could lose credits as they transfer from school to school. There are now close to 1600 kids in the portal in college football after three days.

I could easily see in a year or so mid-year transfers where a kid can be immediately eligible.

Any who, losing Johnson hurts but I guess he probably wasn't going to play anyway. Knox leaving mid year doesn't make sense, but I am sure he has his reasons. Go Jays!!!

You’re assuming these ‘portal entries’ had a choice.

Johnson didn’t and I’m pretty sure he’s not getting his spring semester NIL payment, though I haven’t heard for sure. Knox I don’t know about but could be, who knows?

If CU has it set up for ongoing payments rather than lump sums - and I’m pretty sure most places are set up like that though I’m not 100 percent sure how we do it - you’ll see more guys ‘hitting the portal’ at what might be puzzling dates.

From what I have heard, LJ is a freak athlete, but turned out not to be particularly skilled or blessed with basketball IQ. Knox is from Vegas. Wonder if he was involved with whatever happened there, which could explain why he is also now off the roster.
