Mid-majors are feeder programs.

Agreed. Summit and MVC just get their talent stolen every spring now.

Because life as a student-athlete at that level just isn't as appealing and doesn't offer as much as the higher levels. Kids don't grow up dreaming of playing at Indiana State. Mid-major coaches understand the deal, and selling kids on putting in a couple of good years at their level before making the jump is part of their recruiting pitches now.

Mid- and low-majors have never been operating on anywhere close to an even playing field, and that's OK. There are a lot of good basketball players who fall short of what it takes to be successful at the high-major level, and it's good for them to have a place where they can play and either develop into the kind of player that can play in the Big Ten/Big East/etc. or just have a solid college career. There are still going to be good players at the mid-major level every year as coaches discover new hidden gems or turn drop-down transfers into stars.

It has changed 1010% since the days Creighton was in the MVC.

Good. Most will find their place in the new world and everyone will get paid more closely related to their worth than they did under the old system. Of course some players, like some schools and coaches in the past will misplay their hand and be left not where they wat to be. Some will be better off, some will not, just like before. These guys are just getting a jump start on work and life before they graduate.

In general, it's an improvement, but they need to be careful that they don't kill the goose that lays the golden eggs with the changes to the system. Does anyone think that Pops is worth 700K (rumored to be the bag of cash he's getting?). Even disregarding the baggage, he's simply not that good of a player, even if he lives up to his potential

If the system produces million dollar players and the G league and Europe leagues continue to pay 150K or so, there is clearly a problem with the rewards system. Yes, the schools have been making money and players deserve to make money, BUT that only works so long as fans remain dedicated to the sport and the teams

How long would have people been Creighton fans if Korver, Harsted, Doug, and others had left for more money after their Freshman years?

Goodman reporting Jeremy Roach is going to transfer from Duke. Maybe AOC can give him a call …

We are just seeing the potential of what these guys can make. The rich are going to get richer because they have the resources. When the Kentuckys and Dukes and North Carolinas of the world, start bidding on the next Zion Williamson or Cooper Flagg, its just going to drive the market up and it will trickle down to every player out there. Who is to say that five years from now, top college players arent making $5 million per year. Oumar freaking Ballo is reportedly demanding $1.2 million. That is rivaling what NBA draft picks are getting. I think the NBA minimum is around $1.2.
So much money in college sports..five years from now, who is going to pay more? Kentucky Wildcats or Chicago Bulls. Is that out of the question? Which colleges and athletic directors can squeeze the most money out of boosters and fans.

This is why I said expecting us to be top 25 annually is a recipe for disappointment.

We are competitive with NIL at the moment for two reasons: we had our ducks in line early, and the NIL endgame Hardwood speaks of was far off.

Well with each passing year it gets closer. We are going to have to participate in the arms race and even then we can’t win it.
