Bishop Verot rising junior Ricky Doyle turned in one of the state's best performances during the July Recruiting Period and college coaches at the highest level are taking notice of the 6'9 center.
"My first offer came from Boston College and yesterday I received an offer from Miami," said Doyle when asked about the status of his recruitment, "I also have offers from Penn State and Creighton and interest from Stanford and Michigan"
Not only a high level performer on the court, Doyle achieves in the classroom as well evidenced by his 3.2 GPA and the importance he is putting on academics in the recruiting process. "I am looking for a program with strong academics, a good relationship with the coaching staff and a place where I can fit in both on and off the court."
Doyle is a highly skilled post player who can score with both hands in the lane and is a threat to score with his back to the basket or while facing the rim but the Bishop Verot product remains hard at work to improve his game this offseason. "I have spent a lot of time doing individual development with my high school coaching staff and my father," stated Doyle, "I am working to improve my strength, ball handling, shooting and finishing with either hand."
Doyle averaged 15.2 points and 8.6 rebounds per contest last season for Coach Matt Herting while helping lead the Vikings to a 25-5 record and a Regional Final appearance. With the return of 6'5 rising senior Mason Taylor, the Vikings should have a good chance to take one step further this season and return to Lakeland.
