I certainly don’t have a problem with him wanting to play for a black head coach, but his comment that “I feel like Black coaches don’t get the same opportunities to get good players at their schools” seems like a weird statement when if Shaka is known for anything at this point it’s being a top level recruiter. Unless he’s talking in direct relation to Kansas, which yeah I guess not many of any coaches get players that good.
Recruiting rankings since Shaka’s arrival:
2019: 17th
2018: 8th
2017: 6th (ahead of Kansas)
2016: 6th (ahead of Kansas)
Regardless, wish him the best of luck. Smart hasn’t shown much in turning the program around so who knows what a year from now brings.
